Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Area of Excellence Quantifiable Animal Performance in the Department of Animal Science and will be responsible for developing stochastic nutritional requirement and utilization models for the entire pork production chain.
  • Be responsible for collecting and analyzing research data associated with pork production in the United States.
  • Work under the combined mentorship of Drs. Jeff Wiegert, Karun Kaniyamattam and Luis Tedeschi, experts in swine production systems and computational modeling.
  • Join a dynamic animal system modeling research group that includes postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and undergraduate students, and will have access to state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities available through the Department of Animal Science at TAMU and AgriLife Research.
  • Develop and implement computational models to investigate the sustainability of swine production systems.
  • Apply artificial intelligence techniques to analyze and interpret large datasets created through in-silico experiments, thereby validating and calibrating decision models.
  • Collaborate with other researchers in the department and across the university, thereby contributing to the life cycle assessment of U.S. swine production systems.
  • Serve as an active contributor to the Department of Animal Science’s pursuit of mentoring future sustainability experts in livestock systems.
  • Writing manuscripts and reports, working with mentors, and advising committee for coordinating and managing relevant projects, development of analytical methodologies, and perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

PhD degree in animal science/swine nutrition, agricultural engineering, computer science or a related degree.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to be proactive, highly organized, and responsible with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Familiarity with programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, R, or MATLAB.
  • Determination and interest to master computational modeling and simulation techniques.
  • A deep passion for animal agriculture and a curious mind yearning to contribute to sustainable livestock systems.
