Job Summary
Job Summary | The Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences at Concord University invites applications for postdoctoral researcher / software developer. This one-year, approximately 50% time position is focused primarily on the development of software for instrument hardware control and a networked control API for Concord’s electron microprobe (EPMA) laboratory. Other related duties in support of the EPMA laboratory may be assigned as necessary. Work may be completed onsite or remotely. Candidates are expected to hold an earned doctorate, have experience with EPMA instrument operation, have experience using Probe for EPMA software to acquire and process analytical data, have experience with the development of software for EPMA applications, and be familiar with the code base and development tools of Probe for EPMA. Concord University is a public institution with an enrollment of approximately 1800 students. The University is located in a scenic, small-town setting in the mountains of southern West Virginia with access to year-round outdoor recreation activities. The Department offers degree programs in environmental geosciences and chemistry, and a minor in physics. The Department values and actively supports innovative teaching and participation in undergraduate research and seeks candidates with similar ideals. We maintain a diverse array of instrumentation for teaching and undergraduate research, including an observatory, electron microprobe, micro-XRF, GPR, a GIS lab, facilities for analytical chemistry, and a sample preparation laboratory. Department faculty lead or co-lead numerous externally funded projects in geology and chemistry.
