Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Student Success Coach manages all aspects of supporting SRC students. This includes serving as an advocate who will ensure that services (academic support, student, and community) are delivered so that students have opportunities to be successful regardless of course delivery method.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides consultation and assistance with the development and implementation of student success initiatives including but not limited to student goal attainment, probation oversight, and other functions related to student academic success.

2. Teaches at least one section of LA 100 (Student Opportunities for Success).

3. Initiates and manages an early alert process to identify supported and referred students. This includes periodic follow-up with identified students throughout the semester.

4. Serves as a liaison between faculty and student to assist with resolution of instructional issues.

5. Provides proctoring services and/or academic workshops as requested by faculty or the Office of Instruction.

6. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of programs and services offered on the Spoon River College campus and in the community; seeks out appropriate programs and services in the community.

7. Documents Academic Success Plans and maintains confidentiality of such documentation. Performs assessments of students’ learning styles/differences; teaches various study methods given students’ particular learning preferences and issues.

8. Coordinates recruitment, scheduling, and training of peer tutors. Supervises and provides guidance for peer tutors while working with students. Maintains and revises peer tutor training as necessary.

9. Provides guidance on time management, test-taking skills, note taking, methods to increase comprehension and memory, and adjustment to college; as well as general good student behavior.

10. Monitors activities of the Learning Resource Center at the Canton or Macomb Campus.

11. Provides assistance to students and faculty with basic course management through the use of the learning management system (LMS).

12. Coordinates student retention efforts with Student Services and assists with recruitment activities as needed.

13. Coordinates with marketing department to ensure communication of services and programs to students.

14. Develops and maintains online learning resources such as orientation materials, student tutorials, and the LRC website information.

15. Oversees SRC food pantry and coordinates with the Academic Support Assistant and LRC Assistant to seek donations, coordinate food drives, coordinate budget with the foundation, purchase items, stock items, market to students, and serve students who visit each center’s pantry.

16. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position may supervise student employees.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. 1. A bachelor’s degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution is required. A master’s degree is preferred.

2. A current and valid Illinois driver’s license with a clear motor vehicle records check (per the college’s definition of an authorized driver) is required.

3. An understanding of learning styles, learning disabilities, and study skills across all subject areas, as well as community college experience or experience working with diverse students is preferred.

4. General knowledge of advising, student support services/resources at a community college setting as well as the ability to work with community agencies is preferred.

5. At least 1-2 years of teaching and/or working with students one-on-one or in small group settings is preferred.

6. Skill in collecting and analyzing data and conducting project evaluations is preferred.

7. Must possess the ability to assist, influence and work with diverse dynamic student population.

8. Experience with Microsoft applications and personal computer skills are required with the ability to learn the Spoon River College information system and new programs as technology changes.

9. Must possess a high level of confidentiality and accuracy. Must possess the ability to manage multiple and competing priorities; deal with conflict appropriately; withstand pressure, and remain calm in tense situations. Must possess problem solving skills; flexibility, dependability, and responsibility. Must possess the ability to work in a team centered environment and demonstrate a positive attitude.

10. Must possess organizational abilities, superior interpersonal skills and client service skills, and verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak before groups.
