Job Description
 

The Immunomodulation and Translational Research Program in the Department of Child Health, University of Missouri, Columbia, MO, is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to participate in federally-funded several projects developing immunomodulatory approaches with applications to transplantation (hematopoietic stem cells, islet, and SC-derived beta cells) and Graft-versus-host diseases and autoimmunity (with focus on Aplastic Anemia, type 1 diabetes). This position will work within the research lab in the NextGen Precision Health Building.  The program has developed various novel biologics and targeted delivery biomaterial platforms with demonstrated efficacy for tolerance induction to allogeneic bone marrow cells and islets for the treatment of diabetes. 
Duties for this Position include:
1) Culturing, propagating and characterizing embryonic stem cells derived beta cells (SC-beta cells).
2) Engineer hematopoietic stem cells and splenocytes to introduce into   recipient for immunomodulation with a focus on mixed chimerism, GVHD prevention, autoimmunity and tolerance to tissue and solid organ allografts
3) Develop, execute, and evaluate experiments assessing immunomodulatory efficacy of lead biologics for tolerance induction to auto and alloantigens.
3) Analyze and organize data for detailed record keeping, grant and manuscript submissions as well as oral presentations at local, national, and international meetings.
4) Conducting immune monitoring studies using multiparameter flow cytometry, qRT-PCR, immunohistochemistry.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Design and execute experiments, data collection, analysis,
  interpretation.
• Preparation of the data for grant submission, publication, and
  presentation at local, national, and international meetings.
• Help in the day-to-day operation of the laboratory.
• Perform other assigned duties on a needed basis


Qualifications
 

Minimum qualifications include Ph.D., M.D. or D.V.M. degree with a minimum of 1-3 years of basic laboratory experience, solid understanding of basic immunology and hands-on expertise in immune cell function analysis, handling mice and performing various manipulations (bleeding and injections via different routes), and end-point tissue harvesting.
Candidates will be evaluated on:

  • expertise in tissue culture, humanized mouse models, NOD model of autoimmunity, multiparameter flow cytometry, Cell culture for organoids, qRT-PCR, immunohistochemistry, and immune cell function and proliferation assays.
  • Effective oral and written and interpersonal communications skills as well as proficiency in word, excel, power point, and statistical software’s.
  • Experience in bioinformatics.
