Job Description
Provide academic advising, guidance and support services to Veteran students. Assist students with understanding military benefits while providing guidance for completing a degree or transferring. Monitor student academic progress and develop action plans for students who are struggling academically. Develop individualized academic plans. Educate students on financial literacy, scholarship and other related areas. Work effectively with student services offices and academic departments to meet the goals and objectives of the office, division, and institution. Assist with program evaluation, and complete other assignments as directed.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Knowledge of a variety of governing compliance agencies as well as their regulations and policies
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate ability to work successfully with persons from diverse backgrounds, and commitment to diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Decision making skills along with the ability to communicate and collaborate with others
  • Ability to assess individual student needs and identify applicable resources
  • Strong ability to learn, understand and explain admissions, academic, and financial requirements and college policies
  • Experience working with a diverse population of students
  • Personal computing/technology skills, working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, and experience with and comfort utilizing multiple types of technology to provide advising services
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in student personnel, education, counseling, or related field
  • Veteran Affairs experience
  • Federal Financial Aid experience
  • Two years of experience working in higher education
  • Previous experience in admissions, academic, career, or financial aid advising
  • Familiarity with D2L, ISRS, Hobsons
