The International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) seeks a strategic, detail-oriented self-starter and team player to coordinate its multi-faceted and growing training program. Our training is offered worldwide and is designed to strengthen the skills of impact assessment practitioners, equipping them to work toward creating a world that is more environmentally sustainable, socially just, and economically equitable.

At IAIA Headquarters (HQ), we are the administrative professionals who develop and manage these types of programs, utilizing the expertise of IAIA’s members to provide the course content and instruction to other impact assessment professionals. This is not an internal training program intended for IAIA staff, nor does IAIA create the content for these courses. In this position, you will be asked to lead and expand upon our long-standing pre-conference training and our newer online training opportunities and to help develop an ambitious, unified, and internationally recognized training and development program.

This is a great opportunity for an individual who has experience with managing professional development and is passionate about supporting cutting-edge international efforts to protect human populations and the environment and to have real impact on some of the biggest issues of our time. The position is full-time and based in Fargo, North Dakota.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, bolster, and further develop IAIA’s overall training program.
  • Coordinate and expand IAIA’s growing online training course offerings, which include both synchronous and asynchronous training.
  • Continue to develop and expand IAIA’s webinar program through presenter and topic sourcing, webinar system set-up, presenter preparation, and webinar promotion.
  • Serve as HQ liaison to IAIA’s Training and Professional Development Committee (TPDC), including assisting the TPDC Chair with upcoming tasks and priorities.
  • Coordinate the offering of in-person training at conferences and symposia, including managing the TPDC review of training course proposals.
  • Work with IAIA staff to help promote courses on social media outlets and e-newsletters; work with local conference program committee to promote courses locally in region of conference/symposia.
  • Liaise with international instructors of in-person courses about logistical requirements (e.g., room set-up, audio-visual requirements) in coordination with IAIA’s Event Logistics Specialist and prepare materials (e.g., evaluation forms, certificates, etc.) for course instructors to use onsite.
  • Track training course statistics and prepare compilations of course evaluation scores.
  • Provide onsite staffing at annual conference and special meetings as needed; this will require international travel. In additional to training-related duties, this may include, but is not limited to, assisting with registration, photo/video, onsite logistics, etc.
  • Explore and spearhead as needed the expansion of IAIA’s training program, including possible continuing education courses and other certificate programs.
  • Measure and review IAIA’s training course offerings against current best practice for professional development and help IAIA move its training programs forward in a coordinated and strategic way.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 1-3 years’ work experience in program or project management, preferably including experience in a non-profit environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with software technical support as needed.
  • Adaptable and willing to investigate and troubleshoot unusual solutions to software issues.
  • Experience working with a diversity of people, groups, local communities, and organizations.
  • Ability to work both independently and in close coordination with a team, considering that some members are not located in the Fargo, ND region.
  • Patience, persistence, and perseverance in effectively managing volunteers.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to perform under tight deadlines.
  • Technologically savvy and ability to learn software as needed.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with sensitivities to an international audience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Capacity to use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe Pro efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with the technical set up of webinars on GoToWebinar or other webinar platform.
  • Knowledge of the structure and basic function of a learning management system.
