The Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership (CVNL) is seeking a Volunteer Services Manager to join their team of passionate change-agents committed to building and fostering stronger communities in the North Bay and beyond. CVNL’s Volunteer Services Program Manager enhances the impact of volunteerism by working with nonprofits, community-serving public agencies, and businesses that have made commitments to volunteerism. This person is a leader in the department’s efforts across one or more counties, leading volunteer recruitment efforts, devising and managing Days of Service, leading corporate engagement projects, co-managing the online matching portal and serving as the local Emergency Volunteer Center (EVC) Leader during declared disasters and emergencies. This role is instrumental in ensuring that CVNL fulfills its mission of equipping strong nonprofits with confident and prepared leaders and volunteers.

Primary Responsibilities

The Manager works independently on projects, from conception to completion, handles a wide variety of concurrent activities and also works as a member of the Volunteer Services multi-county team. The Manager will oversee the work of the Volunteer Services Program Coordinator and/or Program Assistant. This position reports to the Director of Volunteer Services.

Volunteer Recruitment, Matching and Recognition

  • Recruit volunteers for nonprofit and local government agencies using the online volunteer matching portal, conducting presentations to community groups, and coordinating key outreach activities in conjunction with strategic initiatives
  • Plan and implement Days of Service to link volunteers to partner nonprofits
  • Manage and track program information including volunteers and their hours, volunteer leaders and volunteer opportunities in the online portal
  • Manage aspects of the database portal in collaboration with other VS team members
  • Foster relationships with volunteer groups (schools, community groups, corporations, faith-based organizations, etc.)
  • Coordinate volunteer appreciation events and activities
  • Develop and manage the volunteer budget

Disaster Readiness

  • During declared disasters and emergencies, Serve as the local Emergency Volunteer Center (EVC) leader for the counties CVNL serves
  • To prepare for disasters, the Manager takes a lead role as one of CVNL’s representatives on one or more Community Agencies Responding to Disaster (COAD/VOAD).
  • Conduct online and in-person nonprofit-focused trainings on topics such as: emergency volunteer management; continuity of operations planning; disaster communication; disaster preparedness for employees and families, and more

Other

  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with service providers, organizational and government/public partners, including nonprofit agencies.
  • Create and facilitate volunteer engagement trainings and workshops as needed on topics such as Service Enterprise, the Volunteer Management Certificate Series and Peer Learning Network.
  • Assist in the planning and promotion of Volunteer Services by representing CVNL at relevant community forums and event
  • Work closely with the Marketing and Communications to draft effective messages and strategies to target communities.
  • Generate and compile reports, metrics and outcomes.

Expected Hours of Work/Travel:
This is an onsite position is based out of either our Santa Rosa or San Rafael office with regular travel within the North Bay Area with standard mileage reimbursements available. Standard hours are Monday through Friday 9am-5pm with the ability to work occasional events or meetings on weekends or evenings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nonprofit Management, Social Work, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years supervisory experience with staff or volunteers
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the nonprofit sector
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to motivate and manage volunteers
  • Demonstrated knowledge of volunteer management best practices
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, CRM and volunteer management software
  • Experience with event planning and project management.
  • Knowledge and ability to work with social media and marketing programs.
  • Ability to multi-task, while still being detail oriented
  • Ability to relate to clients, volunteers and staff in a professional, efficient, friendly, calm and helpful manner
  • Knowledge of budgeting and reporting
  • Bilingual in Spanish highly preferred
  • Proven ability to work effectively and respectfully with diverse groups of varying cultures, ethnicities, age groups, abilities, etc.
  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid CA driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.

Compensation:
The budgeted starting salary that CVNL reasonably expects to pay for this position is $68,000 to $75,000 annually. This takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, external market comparisons for similar positions in similar geographic locations and size. Offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
