Postdoctoral Research Associate - Computational Biology

Job Description

Summary

The Yu Lab within the Department of Computational Biology is currently seeking exceptional candidates for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position with a focus on single-cell & spatial omics and systems immunology. The Yu Lab is dedicated to developing advanced systems biology algorithms, such as NetBID (Du, Nature 2018), NetBID2 (Dong, Nat Common, 2023), and scMINER (Ding, in revision). These algorithms integrate multi-omics data at both bulk and single-cell levels to dissect intracellular and intercellular network dynamics in healthy and diseased states, identify underlying hidden drivers, and ultimately translate these discoveries into potential clinical applications.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing computational and systems biology approaches to analyze spatial omics data and single-cell omics data (e.g., scRNA-seq, scATAC-seq, single-cell proteomics). This role involves working in a dynamic environment and conducting integrative analyses of multidimensional datasets within the context of basic immunology and cancer immunotherapy.

The Yu Lab offers a stimulating and collaborative research environment, providing ample opportunities for professional growth and career development. We encourage qualified candidates with a passion for systems biology and immunology to apply for this exciting opportunity.

As one of the premier pediatric research institutions in the world, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital provides exceptional resources and a supportive environment for career development. As a postdoctoral fellow, you will interact with leaders in cancer and translational research within and outside the institution and at national/international meetings. Innovative research will be supported by the lab’s infrastructure, which includes a wet-lab component. Postdocs have considerable flexibility and freedom to develop their research programs.

St. Jude provides a highly interactive and supportive environment for researchers’ career development and has been named to Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work 2018. St. Jude is a top-ranked hospital (#1 for pediatric cancer specialty in the U.S. in 2017) and a world-class basic research institute with 260+ faculty members. St. Jude postdoctoral fellows are provided with a highly competitive salary in an affordable city, a professional development allowance ($2,500), and an array of benefits , including sign-on bonus, health, dental and vision coverage, and a retirement program.

The initial appointment will be for 1-2 years and can be renewed for up to a total of 5 years, depending on the candidate’s goals and qualifications.

Interested candidates, please complete the online application and email your CV and cover letter to jiyang.yu@stjude.org .

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement computational and systems biology approaches for network and hidden driver analysis from spatial omics and single-cell omics data.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to apply developed algorithms to real-world datasets and generate valuable biological insights.
  • Perform integrative analyses of multidimensional datasets within the context of basic immunology and cancer immunotherapy.
  • Communicate research findings through presentations, publications, and conferences.
  • Contribute to the development of grant proposals and funding applications.

Minimum Education

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent).

Minimum Experience

Applicants with a PhD in a quantitative field (computational biology, bioinformatics, systems biology, genetics/genomics, statistics, mathematics, computer science, or related fields) are encouraged to apply.

Strong candidates from a primarily wet-lab or clinical background who wish to develop sophisticated quantitative skills will also be considered. Successful candidates will have a track record of scientific productivity, e.g., a first author paper, or a demonstrable contribution to a large project. Experience in immunology or cancer immunotherapy or single-cell technologies is desired.
