Virginia Tech (VT) and Children’s National Hospital (CNH) are recruiting in partnership to fill a tenure track faculty position at Virginia Tech at the assistant or associate professor level in the area of research on the mechanisms and applications of focused ultrasound for therapeutic approaches to treat brain cancer, particularly in pediatric populations. Candidates with a focus in biological and/or engineering approaches to the study of how focused ultrasound can be used to treat brain cancers and/or modify the blood brain barrier for the delivery of therapeutics are encouraged to apply. This new faculty position represents part of a major collaborative research initiative between VT and CNH. The position will be located at Children’s National Research and Innovation Campus (CNRIC - https:// childrensnational.org/news-and-events/photo-gallery/research-and-innovation-campus-virtual-tour) in Washington, DC with the possibility of additional research space at Virginia Tech's Fralin Biomedical Research Institute (FBRI - https://fbri.vtc.vt.edu/) on the university’s health sciences campus in Roanoke, VA.

Applicants should have an earned doctorate (PhD, MD and/or DVM), postdoctoral research experience, a record of accomplishment of research productivity through high quality publications and a record of successful extramural funding (preferably from NIH). The faculty member will join several teams of VT and CNH brain cancer researchers already in place at the CNRIC, as well as basic, translational and clinical CNH cancer researchers, neuroscientists and immunologists. The successful candidate will primarily be expected to maintain a high-quality, extramurally-funded research program. They will also have the opportunity to participate in some teaching of Virginia Tech graduate students and to serve as a research mentor for graduate, medical and undergraduate students. The CNRIC is located in Washington, DC sited on the former Walter Reed Army Medical Center campus in a newly renovated research building with state of the art facilities, including adjacent teams of researchers from CNH’s genetic medicine research center and rare disease institute. Johnson and Johnson’s J-Lab facility and the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority program are also located in the same building.
