The Associate Provost reports to the Provost (formerly EVP/COO) and provides advice on the academic enterprise. The Associate Provost will work closely with the college deans and other senior administrators to provide support, guidance and leadership in the areas of strategic planning, new initiatives, resource development and external relations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Individuals must possess the knowledge, as well as the following skills and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. 1. Must be able to effectively communicate and interact with administration, faculty, staff, and external dignitaries and constituents. Excellent communicator who is skilled in making oral and written reports, and organizing, coordinating and moderating groups sessions, and developing and maintaining effective relationships with other internal and external constituents. Experience dealing with highly confidential matters. 
2. Proven analytical, organization, problem-solving, and multi-tasking skills required to oversee the prioritizing, delegating, and managing of detailed-oriented project and/or University-based initiative assignments in a fast-paced office. Disciplined self-starter – with good and sound decision-making skills and the ability to meet deadlines and function effectively under pressure. 3. Proficiency in the use of technology relative to applied research and testing, and interpreting and applying complex institutional, federal, state and local regulations, policies, and procedures. 4. Strong knowledge of statistical techniques, demographic data, and learning theories and practices. 5. Demonstrate efficiency in designing and conducting research studies, programmatic assessment and evaluation, curriculum development, and identifying alternative courses of action, as needed. 6. Computer skills necessary for the set up of document formats in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and any other software programs required by the position. 7. Strong math and English (including proper grammar, spelling, and proper sentence structure) aptitude required. 8. Possession of a valid California driver’s license for periodic local travel.

Required Qualifications

1. Education: the ideal candidate will hold a doctorate degree in a related field. 2. Experience: five (5) or more years of administrative and teaching experience in private, federal and state grant submission and reporting. Teaching experience in an academic graduate research setting is preferred. Five or more years of experience in fund and program, and community initiatives development.
