The Office of Research and Sponsored Projects (ORSP)  safeguards and advances U-M?s research enterprise by providing its partners with efficient pre-award and non-financial post-award services for the compliant administration of externally sponsored grants, contracts, and ancillary agreements. ORSP aspires to be recognized across the globe as the leading provider of innovative, and high value guidance on the conduct of sponsored research and other funded activities. Our office is growing and looking for experienced individuals to provide pre-award and non-financial post-award research administration services for our Private Sponsors Team and the Government Sponsors Team.

Under management of an ORSP Assistant Managing Project Representative, you  will work collaboratively across campus with units engaged in sponsored activity, providing high-quality support to faculty, staff, and sponsor representatives.  Also, you will perform proposal review and submission, award administration and compliance oversight; negotiate grants, cooperative agreements, contracts, subcontracts, and unfunded agreements; coordinate the submission and acceptance of standard awards; coordinate approval processes for pre-award and post-award actions and approve such actions within delegated authority; other responsibilities as assigned. 

Required Qualifications*

Required qualifications for Senior Project Representative title:

  • Four or more years experience performing similar job duties in an academic institution central office equivalent to ORSP.
  • All required qualifications for Project Representative title.

 

Required qualifications for Project Representative title:

  • Two or more years of experience performing similar job duties in an academic institution central office equivalent to ORSP.
  • All required qualifications for Assistant Project Representative title.

Required qualifications for Assistant Project Representative title:

  • Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and experience.
  • Two or more years of relevant experience.
  • U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident Status:  ORSP deals with export controlled information, the handling of which is regulated by the U.S. Federal Government and access to which is restricted to U.S. Citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience in pre-award and post-award grant and contract administration related to various extramural sponsors, such as Federal agencies, state agencies, nonprofit organizations, and industry.
  • Working knowledge of sponsor software systems (e.g. eRA Commons, Research.gov).
  • Familiarity with U-M policies and procedures related to research administration (including, but not limited to, accounting, purchasing, personnel, and regulatory compliance).
  • Experience reading, interpreting, revising, and explaining agreements, complex policies, regulations, statutes and guidelines.
  • Negotiation skills sufficient to negotiate the terms and conditions of grants, cooperative agreements, contracts and subcontracts.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize work and multitask in a time sensitive, high volume work environment. Ability to input and manage data with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Experience providing excellent customer service.
  • Certification in Research Administration (CRA), JD, MBA, or comparable degree/certification.
