Basic Function/Definition

Imbedded Counselor for the Industrial, Environmental Transportation and Technology Areas of Interest.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development , marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling.
  • A bachelor’s degree in one of the above listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline, pursuant to Title 5, Section 53410.1.
OR
  • A valid California Community College Counselor Credential
OR
  • The equivalent.
AND
  • Demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Equivalencies

The equivalency is: A Masters degree in education with an emphasis in counseling that includes a minimum of 24 graduate level units in counseling courses AND a graduate level counseling practicum or internship in a community college setting.

Responsibilities

Under general direction from the Dean, Career and Technical Education:
? Provide comprehensive counseling services to community college students
? Provide information on college major and certificate programs as they relate to educational and career development
? May teach counseling courses
? Provide orientation for new students
? Provide counseling related workshops
? Provide counseling and advisement during registration
? Maintain positive relationships with faculty in academic division(s) as assigned
? Participate in recruitment activities
? Participate in student and campus activities including but not limited to committee participation, institutional activities, staff development/flex activities
? Assume professional responsibilities normally expected of members of community college faculty as described by Board Policies and the California Education Code
? Perform peer reviews as required in the association contract
? Participate in other contractually required activities
? Meet regularly with discipline/division peers
? Work towards continuous personal growth and development
? Perform other duties as assigned
? Assignments may be either day or evening, weekday or weekends or online.

Foreign Degrees

Any degree from a country other than the United States, including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by an Evaluation Service prior to the closing date. Certification must be attached with copies of transcripts.

Position Description
