Description

Georgetown University’s Institute for the Study of International Migration (ISIM) is accepting applications for a postdoctoral fellow to support research on impacts of the Turkish earthquake among Syrian refugees in Turkey and Syrian internally displaced persons in northwest Syria. Candidates will engage in research activities related to a funded project between ISIM and the IGAM Academy in Turkey. The post-doctoral fellow will work at Georgetown University from 1 January 2024 through December 2024 to work on the project, which will include research on the concept of social cohesion and its relationship to refugee and immigrant integration, and the applicability of social cohesion/integration concepts to displacement in countries other than Syria and Turkey.

ISIM is an innovative multidisciplinary center that studies the social, economic, environmental, and political dimensions of international migration. The postdoctoral fellow will be supervised by Professors Elizabeth Ferris, ISIM director, and Katharine Donato. The fellow will also be expected to participate in relevant ISIM and broader Georgetown activities and events, to make contacts with researchers in the Washington DC area, and to contribute to the intellectual life of the research community. The ideal candidate must hold a PhD in Anthropology, Demography, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, or a related discipline and should also have research experience related to international migration and forced displacement. While the position is open to individuals of all nationalities, proficiency in both Turkish and English is essential. Salary is $65-70,000 (depending on experience) plus benefits and a small research fund. While Georgetown will support the visa process, the position is contingent on the individual receiving a visa. If there are delays in the visa process, there is some flexibility in starting date.
