Full Job Description

The purpose of this position is to coordinate the delivery of accommodations and support services, provide advocacy and support and to promote an accessible learning environment for students with disabilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Conduct interviews/intakes with students with disabilities to provide reasonable accommodation and to ensure equal access to education and work with faculty to assist them in the provision of reasonable accommodation for students with disabilities.
Administer procedures to provide disability support services which assist the college to comply with federal, state, and district regulations/policies (Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and RCW28B.10.910-16) regarding access and disability accommodation.
Develop accommodation plans and consult with faculty, advisors and learning center coaches on implementation.
Develop and provide orientation, workshops/seminars, and other training for administrators, faculty and staff to disseminate disability information to ensure compliance with the ADA and Section 504.
Responsible for student records, documentation, data and information with strict attention to accuracy and confidentiality of all student records in accordance with Family Educational Rights Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations.
Hire, train, supervise and evaluate student mentors and work-study students assigned to area.
Responsible for maintaining and updating departmental policies, information and web resources.
Monitor financial resources for the department.
Participate in institutional planning, policy, procedural, and fiscal decisions that affect learning support for students.
Work closely with area high schools and community agencies to assist students in transitioning into and out of college.
Provide consultation and serve as informational resource to staff and faculty in regard to accommodations and modifications needed for students with disabilities; keep abreast of current developments in the field.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services.
Work cooperatively with college faculty and staff to coordinate course placement, learning support services, assistive technology, assessment and accommodations for students with disabilities.
Participate in outreach efforts to promote available services to perspective and enrolled students.
Provide campus leadership and advocacy regarding current laws and educational strategies pertaining to students with disabilities and other pertinent issues related to the Americans with Disabilities Act as amended and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Attend meetings of all assigned committees and participate enthusiastically in other duties as assigned.
Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the mission of NICC.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation counseling, counseling, special education, social work, psychology or closely related field required, Master’s preferred. Three years experience working with students with disabilities in a postsecondary setting preferred.

Extensive knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 508 of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other appropriate laws pertaining to higher education and disability.
Experience in effective supervision and management of staff faculty, professional and support staff in a supportive student-centered environment. Experience in budget management. Strategic planning and experience with state/federal requirements and procedures desirable. Ability to demonstrate respect for and sensitivity to a diverse population required.
