Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Research Development unit in the Division of Research seeks a Grand Challenges – Project Manager to provide project management and day-to-day support to the Grand Challenges Grants Program and its awardees. The position will facilitate communication among internal stakeholders regarding Grand Challenge awards, project accomplishments, and issues of concern. The incumbent will work effectively across the university to capture key metrics with the Grand Challenges program as well as strategic investments in research and infrastructure that are related to the UMD Strategic Plan.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field
Experience:
5 years of experience in a project management or related research role
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Detail-oriented and organized; self-motivated and able to work independently
- Excellent communication skills in writing and verbally
- Ability to work well with a team, ability to successfully partner with internal and external stakeholders as needed
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing deadlines
Preferences:
Preferences:
- Project Management Certification or recent project management experience
- Previous work in a research project, group, or capacity
- Dedicated to the land-grant mission of the university

Sedentary work performed in a normal office environment; exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Requires participation at in-person meetings (where applicable) with Grand Challenge teams and potential internal or external partners as well as staff from the Office of the VPR and Provost.
