We are looking for the right person to work with SLCC donors who support our students by giving to scholarships. The top priority of this position is to ensure that our scholarship donors have a positive and rewarding philanthropic experience. The Development Officer for Scholarships/Stewardship is responsible for qualifying major donors, corporations, and foundations interested in giving to scholarships and supporting Development Directors throughout the scholarship process, from establishment to stewardship and renewal. The Development Officer will also be responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individuals giving to scholarships between $5,000 and $25,000. The Development Officer will help build a robust base of donors to support SLCC students and the ambitious growth of the organization.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Responsible for qualifying major donors, corporations, and foundations interested in giving to scholarships and supporting Development Directors throughout the scholarship process, from establishment to stewardship and renewal. The Development Officer will also be responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individuals giving to scholarships between $5,000 and $25,000. The Development Officer will help build a robust base of donors to support SLCC students and the ambitious growth of the organization.
  • Grow and manage the overall scholarship efforts of the College. Oversee stewardship of a high-quality donor experience through correspondence, donor engagement, mailings, and acknowledgements. When needed, refer donors to the appropriate Development Director after qualification. Support Development Directors in creating professional proposals and reports to individual donors, foundations, and corporations.
  • Direct and implement scholarship donor relations activities. Prepare students to participate in stewardship efforts through briefings, speaking points, and other activities. In conjunction with the Development Office team and campus partners, produce and coordinate annual scholarship appreciation events and activities.
  • Serve as liaison to the financial aid office which distributes scholarships. Manage the fund balances and report scholarship criteria to the financial aid office. Act as a resource for the Development team on gifts that may contain a scholarship component. Maintain open communication with the Executive Director of Development and Development Directors to ensure that the office is kept abreast of the status of scholarship opportunities. Enter and maintain accurate data and contact reports in Raiser’s Edge CRM system. Effectively utilize data and manage scholarship records. Log contact with prospects and donors in CRM ensuring the capture of critical development information and next steps.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, or related field.
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of paid full-time experience in development/fundraising, client relations, sales, marketing, communications, or other related area.
  • Basic accounting/bookkeeping skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong preference given to candidates with extensive development experience.
  • Five (5) + years of professional experience development/fundraising, client relations, sales, marketing, or communications.
  • High degree of integrity, initiative, and resourcefulness.
  • Detail oriented, organized, and deadline driven.
  • Master’s degree.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of best practices, principles, and ethics in fundraising.
  • Knowledge of fundraising techniques that support a multi-functional and diverse organization.
  • Experience with Banner student database is a plus.
  • Proficiency in project management and the ability to work under pressure of deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and human relations skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with and for diverse populations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to successfully function in a team environment, work collaboratively, form solid relationships, close deals, and solve problems independently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Personal motivation and initiative with the ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Results oriented individual interested in developing innovative programs.
  • Understanding of the role of philanthropy in supporting the mission of SLCC.
  • Ability to understand the needs and interests of donors and build relationships between them and the College.
  • Interest in all aspects of education and a dedication to promoting the College’s mission.
  • Commitment to developing excellent working relationships with faculty, senior academic leaders, trustees, and other volunteers and the development office.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
