The Bilingual Education Coordinator – Columbia Basin will help develop and implement
EarthGen’s outreach and programming, while offering guidance and support to students, teachers, and school administrators in the Columbia Basin region. The focus of this position is to engage and support educators and students in EarthGen’s programs, with a specific emphasis on bilingual environmental education, including migrant, bilingual, and native education. Guided by EarthGen’s organizational values of equity and collaboration, the person in this position will help build a local network of school and community partners to create new learning opportunities for K-12 audiences with an emphasis on black, indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) students

Employment type: Part-time (minimum 20 hours/week), with possibility for full-time

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

School Outreach and Direct Classroom Support

  • Creatively and compassionately communicate with students, teachers, school administrators, and community partners by email, phone, and in person to support successful engagement with EarthGen programs.
  • Plan and facilitate trainings, workshops, and other events for teachers, students, school leaders, and community partners virtually and in-person.
  • Provide on-the-ground support to classrooms (i.e., modeling lessons and activities, leading students on pollinator scavenger hunts) and equipping students and teachers with the tools necessary to take action in their schools and communities.
  • Recognize and award EarthGen program participants and community partners for their efforts.
  • Gather success stories of program participants to be spotlighted in organizational newsletters, reports, local news outlets.

Relationship Building and Partnership Development

  • Build new partnerships and strengthen established relationships in school communities in Eastern Washington, especially in the Columbia Basin.
  • Seek and identify potential agency, nonprofit, and other local partners that can support EarthGen’s goals and steward participant engagement.
  • Identify potential cultural and place-based connections to EarthGen programs.

Community Events Support

  • Recruit event attendees and coordinate event logistics, such as registration, pre- and post- event communication, and materials management.
  • Represent EarthGen at community events, participate in stakeholder meetings, and assist with fundraising activities as needed.

Data Management and Maintenance

  • Contribute to program evaluation activities by deploying tools, collecting data, synthesizing results, and highlighting student learner stories.
  • Use Salesforce to track program engagement and outputs, strategizing effective outreach that prioritize communities with the greatest opportunity gaps.

EarthGen is a small organization, and all employees are expected to perform tasks outside of their job description from time to time.

Required Qualifications

  • Passion for EarthGen’s mission and a commitment to equity and environmental justice.
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, education, or related field; OR equivalent experience.
  • Deep working knowledge of effective collaboration with Eastern Washington communities including, but not limited to, bilingual, migrant, native, and BIPOC communities.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-directed and organized, with attention to detail.
  • High emotional intelligence, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate with and learn from people from different backgrounds.
  • Flexibility and interest in working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to travel in Washington state.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional training in equity and social justice.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with K-12 schools.
  • Established relationships with eastern Washington communities, especially migrant and Hispanic/Latinx communities, Columbia Basin connections a plus.
  • Working knowledge of the current K-12 standards including but not limited to the Next Generation Science Standards, WA State Environmental and Sustainability Education Standards, current pedagogies around culturally responsive teaching, and curricula used in the state like Since Time Immemorial.
  • Experience public speaking with diverse populations from urban settings to rural communities.
  • Tech savvy, especially with Microsoft Office and online meeting platforms like Zoom; Salesforce experience a plus.

Compensation Details

The Bilingual Education Coordinator – Columbia Basin is a part-time, hourly-paid position. (We are open to the position being full-time at 40 hours/week for the right candidate.) Some flexibility around work hours will be required, including occasional evenings and weekends; however, this position will typically support schools during regular schools hours.


The hourly pay range is $30-34/hr, depending on experience, plus full benefits
(medical/dental/vision benefits/403b retirement plan). Time off includes 11 paid holidays, 4 Sick and Safe Leave days, and 10 additional vacation days in the first year.
EarthGen offers a flexible work environment. While its main office is in Seattle, this
position will be based remotely in Eastern Washington.
