Position Summary:


Under the direction of Soko Setoguchi, MD DrPH, Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and School of Public Health and the Center for Pharmacoepidemiology and Treatment Science (PETS), the Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be responsible for conducting and assisting in studies examining the interaction between climate factors (extreme heat and air pollution) and medications and devices in older adults with chronic conditions on adverse health outcomes as well as other funded and unfunded projects. Candidates must have and maintain competence in pharmaco- and device-epidemiological research methods and will be mentored in programming skills for large relational databases. 
This is a two-year position that will be supported by active NIH funding. The successful candidate can expect to begin in approximately July 2022. The successful candidate will further develop research skills under the mentorship of Dr. Setoguchi and will have opportunities to develop their own research question, compose and submit their own grants, write, and publish in scientific journals, and continue their own scholarly and research development with input from other faculty and experts, including Dr. Brian L. Strom and others at the Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences.
Established in 1985 by David Mechanic, the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research (IFH) facilitates collaboration among the social and behavioral sciences, clinical disciplines, basic sciences and related fields to promote research on critical health and mental health issues. The IFH brings together scholars across and beyond Rutgers into a vibrant interdisciplinary network that advances high-quality research in five core areas: behavioral health, health economics, social determinants of health and illness, state health policy, and health services research. 

Minimum Education and Experience:


  ·       A doctorate degree in pharmacoepidemiology, epidemiology, biostatistics or related fields or a master's degree with equivalent knowledge and skills. ·       Experience working with large databases such as Medicare, Medicaid, or commercial insurance databases and/or electronic health record databases in a research setting. Applicants with experience working with Medicare and Medicaid databases or other claims databases are preferred. ·       Knowledge in pharmacoepidemiologic research methods and programming skills for large relational databases using SAS, R, Python and/or SQL. ·       Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, and the ability to present scientific findings in various formats and to compose manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. ·       Ability to work well independently and in a collaborative team environment. ·       Excellent organizational, planning, project management, and problem solving skills.
