Job Description

The Experiential Learning (EL) team at Mendoza creates formative learning experiences in which students apply their academic knowledge to real-world challenges with real-world organizations, put into practice the business skills required to build a purposeful career and contribute to the flourishing of the local and global communities they are serving.

The Associate Director of Experiential Learning, Business Development leads business development and project sourcing for all the project-based learning opportunities supported by the Office of Experiential Learning across degree programs. The Associate Director is responsible for:
  • Implementing a new CRM tool for EL company and individual contacts;
  • Identifying leads in coordination with key internal partners such as Admissions, Alumni Relations, Career Development, Corporate Relations, and Development;
  • Administering and evaluating the success of digital marketing campaigns targeting prospective project sponsors;
  • Securing the necessary amount of domestic and international project opportunities to meet student demand;
  • Directing the distribution, negotiation, and collection of project agreements, NDA/IP agreements, and project fees; and
  • Stewarding project sponsors in ways that are meaningful to them in order to encourage continued and expanded engagement with the Mendoza College of Business.

Duties and Responsibilities

Sponsor Relationship Management
  • Collaborate with colleagues across Mendoza and the University of Notre Dame to develop a coordinated alumni and corporate engagement strategy.
  • Develop lead acquisition strategies, execute those strategies, and analyze their effectiveness.
  • Target, establish, and cultivate ongoing relationships with strategic corporate, entrepreneurial, and nonprofit organizations (predominantly Fortune 100 and Fortune 250 companies) and alumni of Mendoza and the University of Notre Dame.
  • Attend University and Mendoza events where prospective project sponsors are in attendance.
  • Ensure project solicitation goals are reached and maintained.
  • Influence prospective project sponsors to support and submit substantive projects and assist them with the design of those projects.
  • Review and provide feedback on all submitted proposals to determine which projects to accept and decline.
  • Manage the sponsor relationship from initial project contact through final student presentations.
  • Develop and execute stewardship plans for project sponsors to maintain strong relationships and increase engagement.
  • Secure $60k in corporate sponsorship annually to underwrite the DEI Grow the Good in Business Case Competition.

Marketing
  • Regularly update digital marketing materials geared towards prospective sponsors.
  • Manage digital marketing campaigns with a primary focus on LinkedIn.
  • Manage and assess the effectiveness of e-mail campaigns.
  • Work with sponsors to gain permission to photograph, and participate in news articles, and other Mendoza media opportunities.

Data and Systems Management
  • Identify, test, and deploy a CRM tool for the management of EL company and individual contacts.
  • Build, distribute, and analyze sponsor evaluations for each program.
  • Create a project sourcing dashboard that tracks the business development process, analyzes trends, and makes visible opportunities to improve conversion rates and project yields.

Physical Demands/Work Environment
  • The person in this position routinely presents information at meetings/events.
  • The person in this position occasionally moves through the building to attend meetings/events and access files or information.
  • May require work during early mornings, nights, and/or weekends.
  • The person in the position travels domestically and internationally, as required.
  • The person in this position is eligible to participate in Mendoza’s Flexible Work location program.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 8-10 years of experience in sales, marketing, or other comparable fields or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience doing business and client relationship development
  • Consultative selling skills
  • Strong strategic planning and project management skills are necessary to set goals, monitor progress, develop operational timelines, and measure success
  • Ability to respond quickly to changing business needs and priorities
  • Team-oriented, proactive, flexible, and customer-service-focused in nature
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, collaboration, reasoning, and resourcefulness in an environment of constrained resources
  • Proven ability to successfully interact with diverse groups of people including C-suite-level executives
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Strong public speaking skills are necessary; ability to present strong and persuasive oral and written communications and to effectively work with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Google Apps, Qualtrics, and CRM software

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree (MBA, Higher Education)
  • Experience working in a higher education setting
  • Foreign language competency
