Job Description

The Operator B will assist the ‘A’ Operator in the safe, reliable and efficient operation of all equipment and systems located in the Power Plant and systems externally located, but remotely controlled from the Power Plant Control Room. Assist the ‘A’ Operator with routine and emergency operations of the power plant equipment. Will operate the Power Plant boilers with minimal supervision. Perform daily cycle chemistry water analysis and adjusting treatments to specified levels. Must be able to complete the Utilities Department Operators Training Program within 1 1/2 years of hire. Further education to meet regulatory requirements may be required to be obtained.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, with a minimum of two years trade/vocational/correspondence school essential or previous boiler or turbine operation experience.
  • Should be familiar with the theory and operation of refrigeration, power boilers, steam and gas turbines, pumps, electric generators and associate auxiliary equipment.
  • Must have the ability to maintain composure and make appropriate decisions under emergency conditions.
  • Must possess enough computer literacy to operate power plant equipment from a computer monitoring/operating system.

Preferred Qualifications

4 years maritime propulsion experience or similar steam generating facility experience.
A thorough understanding of power plant systems and the dynamic interaction between the various power plant systems.

Special Instructions to Applicants

Much interest in a self learner with technical degree or has an interest in learning and growing their knowledge of Power Plant operations.
