Job Description

The Assistive Technology Specialist will be a key member of the Accommodations team in the Center for Student Support and Care here at Notre Dame. A new position for our office, this role will be responsible for assessing the individual needs of students with disabilities and making the appropriate recommendation of assistive technology devices, hardware and software to best assist the students in meeting their academic goals. All training for staff and students on these technologies will also be managed by this role. Outside of working with individual students, this role will manage the relationship with all external software companies as well as digital partners currently used to provide assistance to students. This role will be responsible for analyzing and evaluating new technologies for purchase and implementation. Looking for a team oriented, student focused individual, this role will be a critical component to better serving the needs of our students and community.

Role Responsibilities would include:
Individual assessment of students needs, providing recommendations for the appropriate technology, training student on technology and offering support as they implement this assistive technology
Manage the contracts, agreements, and relationship with all assistive technology suppliers and software companies
Oversee training for students on assistive technology use and develop tools and resources to support students in using assistive technology effectively
Provide assistance with the conversion of material and information to alternative formats
Develop and update assessment tools and processes used to measure the effectiveness of assistive technologies

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (4 years) in Computer Science, Rehabilitation Counseling, Education, Divinity, other related field of study.
  • 1-2 years work experience.
  • Must have strong organizational skills, experience with technology and comfort in navigating software’s and programs.
  • Necessary to have experience with training and education, and excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • The successful candidate will be a team player and able to successfully collaborate with students, faculty, and staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with college students with disabilities.
