POSITION SUMMARY:
The Access Consultant and Testing Center Operations position reports directly to the Director of the Center for Student Support and Care and works closely with the team in the Sara Bea Accessibility Services Office to promote the mission of supporting students with disabilities across campus. As a key member of the larger Center for Support and Care, this person will manage and oversee the daily operations of the Testing Center which includes supporting over 500 students in need of testing accommodations annually. Sara Bea Accessibility services works to support over 500 students in need of testing accommodations and facilitates the managing of nearly 4000 tests each year. Processing and providing testing accommodations requires close collaboration with the Academy as well as students in order to coordinate an efficient and streamlined process. Along with overseeing the student workers and administrative team for the Testing Center, this position will work individually with students to determine appropriate and reasonable accommodations for their diagnosed disabilities. Working closely with campus partners, including advising deans, faculty, and other campus services, this person will help to determine a student’s eligibility for an accommodation and identify what barriers to access exist for this student on campus and in the campus community. Finally, the Assistant Director will oversee and manage all student workers for the Sara Bea office. This includes student employees who support the operations of the testing center as well as those students who work to provide accommodations for students through note talking, sighted guides, or other services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee all operations of the Sara Bea Testing Center for students with accommodations. This includes working directly with the nearly 800 students registered for testing accommodations to schedule, coordinate, and implement all testing accommodations. Along with working with students, this role has direct interaction with all faculty in order to facilitate the smooth distribution of the nearly 8000 exams that are distributed annually through the center. The Testing Center is an efficient and continual operation that requires excellent organizational skills as well as thoughtful communications to both faculty and students involved in the process.
  • Manage a caseload of students with mental health and chronic medical conditions to ensure that students are receiving appropriate accommodations and using other campus resources to have the best opportunity for success. Conduct student interviews, review medical documentation, and collaborate with key campus partners, to determine reasonable accommodations.
  • Running the operations for the testing center requires training and managing the student workers who lead day to day operations in the testing center. Student workers serve as proctors, scribes, sighted guides, office workers, and assist with exam delivery. Recruiting, hiring, training, and managing these students in a student leadership model is the direct responsibility of this role.
  • Maintain confidential student files and records of accommodations provided.
  • Assist with on-going evaluations of the policies and practices used to coordinate reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree (5 years) or advanced certification beyond Bachelor’s
Degree Required: Rehabilitation counseling, counseling, social work, education or related field.
1 to 2 years Experience/Skills Required:
  • Experience working with college students with disabilities and have a strong working knowledge of Federal disability laws.
  • Experience with interpreting neuropsychological reports and medical documentation.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • The successful candidate will be a team player and able to successfully collaborate with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Experience determining appropriate accommodations for students with mental health conditions preferred.
