The Michigan Engineering Associate Director of Graduate Recruitment and Retention will lead the College of Engineering in efforts related to graduate student recruitment, retention, educational programming, and beyond. We are seeking an outstanding individual with exceptional experience in student academic affairs. This position will also manage the administrative operations of the CoE Graduate Education Team, which includes budget, human resources, student services, and facilities. They will also collaborate closely with the Associate Dean for Graduate & Professional Education, as well as the Executive Director for Student Affairs.†

- Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Graduate & Professional Education on the College's strategic vision for graduate student recruitment, retention, academic programming, and placement. Ensure the implementation of this vision.
- Lead core College of Engineering graduate student recruitment and matriculation efforts both on and off campus. This includes:†
- Developing the strategic vision for College-wide recruitment;†
- Collaborating with our Advancement Office to grow graduate student scholarship and fellowship opportunities;†
- Leading graduate education marketing efforts by partnering with our Communications & Marketing Office,†
- Preparing and giving presentations to faculty, staff and student audiences;†
- Representing CoE and building relationships with institutional and organizational contacts.
- Direct College-wide recruitment and retention activities and events including:†
- Department Visit Weekends;†
- Summer Research Programs;
- Graduate Student Orientation;†
- Engineering Research Symposium & EMERGE Weekend;†
- Mentoring Programs;†
- Workshops and social events;
- Annually assess overall graduate recruitment and retention strategies, identifying areas for improvement. Implement plans to enhance these initiatives and activities to meet the College's goals.
- Manage partnerships with CoE units such as the Center for Entrepreneurship, Nexus, Tauber, etc.
- Coordinate and partner with Michigan Engineering department and program faculty, staff and students.
- Lead efforts related to new co-curricular initiatives (graduate initiatives/tracks) and proposal development for new Graduate Initiatives.
- Manage the administrative operations of the Graduate Education team, including budget, human resource and facilities activities. Responsible for the hiring, training, and management of both exempt and non-exempt staff.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.†
- Bachelor's degree (preferably in education or a STEM field) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong leadership track record.
- 8-10 years demonstrated experience in the field of graduate education or higher education student administration.
- 8-10 years of experience in a management/administrative role.
- Demonstrated excellent organizational, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing, and to work collaboratively and diplomatically with a variety of constituents (faculty, staff, students, prospective students, diverse populations, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to develop, interpret, and present data.
- The ability to travel out-of-state and over long weekends multiple times annually.†
- Ph.D. degree (preferably in education or a STEM field).
- Knowledge of U-M policies, procedures, databases, and reporting (i.e. MPathways, MReports, Business Objects, Concur).
- Experience and ability to work within and lead in a variety of electronic media platforms (i.e. websites, spreadsheets, social media, online forms, databases, etc.).†
The Michigan Engineering Office of Graduate & Professional Education operates in a hybrid work environment consisting of both in-person and remote work. This position will be classified as a FLEX position within the Michigan Engineering STARR classification matrix which means working on campus 3 days per week and working remotely the rest of the week.
