If so, we 're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL!

 

We are seeking a talented software engineer to help us expand our internal simulation and analysis capability. You will be joining a hardworking team of engineers and scientists who provide invaluable information to the lab and our sponsors. We are passionate about fast, reliable software that pushes the boundaries of existing solutions. As a Software Engineer you will...

  • Optimize software to take full advantage of powerful, modern computer hardware
  • Create useful analysis tools that organize and visualize important data in a meaningful and clear manner
  • Facilitate and automate integration, setup, execution, and analysis processes involving high-fidelity radar and combat systems software
  • Collaborate with a small, dynamic software team on the architecture and development of complex simulation software to improve modeling capabilities
  • Work closely with the user community to rapidly develop features through constant feedback and iteration

 


Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

 

  • Possess a BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Have at least 1 year of professional experience as a software engineer
  • Are a skilled and efficient programmer in systems or scientific programming languages (e.g., Java, C/C++, Python, JavaScript, Rust, Julia, etc.) with a desire to expand into new areas of coding languages and processes
  • Are proficient in standard software engineering practices (documenting, testing, CI/CD, logging, etc.)
  • Familiarity with both Windows and Linux operating systems, including shell script
  • Have working experience with software version control tools (e.g., GIT)
  • Can collaborate effectively with colleagues of varying experience levels within the Lab
  • Have the verbal and writing skills vital for detailing and presenting work to APL colleagues and government sponsors
  • Have the ability to travel up to 5% of the time as needed to domestic locations
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship

 

You 'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

 

  • Have a M.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Have 3-5 years of experience as a full-time software engineer
  • Have experience with modern programming paradigms such as Java/C/C++/Object-Oriented
  • Have CUDA (or other GPGPU) programming experience
  • Have HPC experience using SLURM (or equivalent grid engine)
  • Have experience working professionally in an agile development environment.
  • Have familiarity with numerical methods, partial differential equations, and/or physics simulations.
