Sensor Data Fusion Engineer

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab

Job Description

Description

Are you interested in helping to develop and field the nation's next generation capabilities in ISR&T (Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance & Targeting) and counter-ISR&T?

Are you excited by tackling difficult, multi-faceted problems, and bringing different systems together to achieve a greater capability? If you have significant experience in ISR&T or related systems and capabilities, this is a great opportunity for you!

The AMDS Multi-Domain Surveillance and Tracking Branch is looking for motivated individuals who can help us develop improvements to today's ISR&T fusion algorithms and pave the way for next generation data fusion developments. We believe this will include focusing on the science of fusing dissimilar sensor data and researching the best algorithms to exploit the provided data, ranging from raw sensor data to track fusion. The envisioned data fusion solutions will incorporate all relevant ISR&T contextual information including sensor data and other sources of intelligence. We are looking for engineers, mathematicians, physicists, and computer scientists who collectively can provide the needed experience and skills in data fusion, machine learning algorithms, and signal processing to achieve these goals.

As a Sensor Data Fusion Engineer, you will...

  • Contribute to the development of advanced data fusion algorithms, using physics-based knowledge of various sensors and prototyping those algorithms when possible
  • Work within a team help to integrate sensor fusion with intelligent sensor control algorithms designed to provide on-demand levels of quality of service in support of targeting
  • Collaborate across APL to research and apply state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms to exploit as much information as possible from all data sources
  • Apply advanced computer science techniques to signal and image processing to enable processing at the edge
  • Investigate new sensing modalities for applicability in ISR&T data fusion
  • Interact and collaborate across the services and communities involved in multi-domain ISR&T to achieve breakthrough improvements in capability

Qualifications

You meet the minimum qualifications for this position if you have:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or Computer Science
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional work experience related to the ISR&T activities described above
  • Have some domain knowledge in ISR&T data fusion, sensors, and platforms
  • Experience with C, C++, Python, MATLAB, and/or Java
  • Have the ability to work effectively on technical teams to solve complex problems
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Hold an active Secret security clearance and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you have:

  • An MS or PhD in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or Computer Science
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in this field
  • Experience working with existing ISR&T data fusion and systems
  • Experience with sensor signal and image processing algorithms and processing platforms
  • An Active TS/SCI clearance
