Context of the Job:
This exciting project explores individual differences in first graders¿ informal fraction knowledge and how we can build this knowledge to help children profit from formal instruction. This project is ongoing with some data already gathered. We seek recent doctoral graduates in fields such as math education, educational psychology, cognitive science, and developmental psychology. The postdoc will collaborate on efforts to design and conduct research in schools, develop ideas, analyze data, and disseminate findings. The fellowship provides an excellent platform for acquiring the skills necessary for conducting research in authentic school settings and for collaborating with school personnel, university faculty, and other researchers. This position is funded by the National Science Foundation.

Responsibilities:

• Interacting with teachers to gain their insights on experimental training activities for children
• Designing training activities that would be appropriate for first-grade students
• Managing and participating in some data collection in schools
• Analyzing quantitative data
• Engaging in strategies to achieve fidelity of implementation of experimental design in a school-based setting
• Preparing and making conference presentations
• Collaborating on manuscript preparation
• Assisting with management of IRB processes with districts and the University of Delaware
• Performing other research-related activities as assigned
• Engaging in general enrichment activities, such as attending colloquia in education, research methods, cognitive science, mathematics, and psychology

Qualifications:

• Doctoral degree in relevant fields such as math education, educational psychology, cognitive science, and developmental psychology
• Strong interest in children's mathematical learning
• Experience working with children and schools preferred
• Proficiency in research methods and data analysis platforms
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Strong ethic and commitment to educational research
• Demonstrates an understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures and backgrounds.
