Job Summary:

The successful candidate will assist with analyzing data for state-wide initiatives for the Department of Family and Protective Services and the Department of State Health Services. This position is based in Austin, Texas and will be officed at Population Health at the University of Texas System Administration. The position requires up to 10% travel, both for project meetings with collaborators and travel to conferences.

This position is grant funded and will be extended another year after favorable performance review and given available funds. When applying please submit a C.V. and a cover letter outlining how your experience compliments the skills being sought for this position.


Major Responsibilities / Duties / Critical Tasks:

  • Secondary analyses of large linked administrative datasets, vital records data, services data, and publicly available data.
  • Scrape and prepare data from publicly available sources.
  • Work with research and evaluation team to conduct analyses that help answer primary research questions.
  • Maintain code documentation and scripts that allow data cleaning steps and analyses to be replicated by others.
  • Work with design team to build data dashboards that presents data to the public in understandable and usable ways.
  • Write statistical reports and sections of manuscripts for publication.
  • Submit and present results at conferences and to state agencies, as requested.
  • Attends meetings (virtually and in person) with collaborators throughout the state.


Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

  • Strong statistics training and experience.
  • Some understanding of early childhood health services data or social determinants of health frameworks.
  • Experience using and sharing analysis code through GitHub.
  • Ability to conduct regression analyses.   
  • The ability to independently conduct at least one of the following statistical techniques: geospatial analyses, multilevel analyses, mixture modeling, longitudinal data analyses, Bayesian analyses.
  • Knowledge of missing data and propensity score techniques.
  • A peer-review publication record that demonstrates the ability to lead analyses.
  • Strong scripting and analysis skills with at least two of the following: R, Python, STATA, MPlus, or ArcGIS.
  • Strong communication skills with clear and succinct writing.


Qualifications

 

Required Education / Experience:

PhD degree in a social science related field, statistics, or epidemiology preferred. Exceptional A.B.D. candidates with an appropriate publication record will be considered.
