Job Summary

Under limited supervision, the Test Proctor’s responsibilities include welcoming and checking in test candidates, verifying ID, and administering a variety of exams. The proctor also monitors candidates during testing. The proctor works and interacts effectively with students, instructors, and College staff to create a secure, efficient and courteous testing environment.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

-Greet tester and verify ID
-Provide instructions to student regarding his/her test.
-Seat candidate and launch test.
-Proctor test, including monitoring candidate via video surveillance.
-Maintain the cleanliness of testing area.
-Answer phone.
-Operate office equipment.
-Work with and protect confidential information.
-Operate electronic mail and messaging systems.
-Accurately organize and file test materials in both paper and electronic formats.
-Look up student and other information in College Information System (Banner).
-Enforce required policies and procedures firmly and courteously.
-Provide accurate and consistent information in a clear and articulate
manner.
-Provide excellent customer service to all visitors to the testing center.
-Assist departmental personnel with other duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

-High school diploma or GED equivalent
-Basic computer skills
-Excellent organizational skills
-Excellent communication skills, both oral and written (ability to read, speak and write English)
-Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
-Dependability and reliability a must
-Must be available to work scheduled hours

Preferred Qualifications

1 Year of College.
1 Year office, reception, or customer service experience
Experience working with confidential information
Familiarity with SLCC a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Must be detail-oriented and committed to accuracy.
Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written (ability to read, speak and write English).
Must possess ability to establish rapport with a wide variety of people/clients (students/staff/faculty).
Must be team-oriented and possess the ability to follow written and oral instructions effectively.
Able to anticipate needs and manage time wisely.
Ability to perform duties with limited supervision.
Ability to manage conflict in a calm and effective manner.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office software.
Must be familiar with general office methods and techniques including filing systems.
Knowledge of College policies, procedures, operations, and information system helpful.
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.

Special Instructions

Hours are MONDAY TO WEDNESDAY ONLY, 8:00a – 5:00p. Hours may vary due to college needs and will be required to cover periods of high testing volume, staff absences, etc.
