Job Summary:

This position reports directly to the principal investigator (Dr. Yubin Miao) in the Department of Radiology. The Research Associate will be responsible for developing radiolabeled peptides for cancer imaging and therapy. The research involves synthesis, characterization, and in vitro and in vivo evaluation of radiopharmaceuticals for potential molecular imaging of cancer using SPECT/PET/CT.

The Research Associate is expected to dedicate 90% of her/his time to conduct the experiments and record the research results, summarize novel research findings for grant reports, and prepare manuscripts for publications. The Research Associate is expected to publish 2-3 research papers per year and encouraged to present the results in weekly lab meetings, appropriate research seminars, and national and international scientific meetings. The Research Associate is also encouraged to actively attend the research seminars in the Department of Radiology and Comprehensive Cancer Center to learn the latest advancement in the field of molecular imaging and cancer research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Routine general maintenance of laboratory and equipment
  • Ordering supplies
  • Providing guidance to graduate and undergraduate students
  • Responsibilities include organic synthesis, cell culture, HPLC analysis, animal biodistribution and imaging studies
  • Will work with the principal investigator to design the receptor-targeted peptides
  • Prepare peptides using peptide synthesizer
  • Determine the receptor-binding affinities of peptides using competitive cell binding assay and radiolabel the peptides with nanomolar binding affinities
  • Use high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to purify the radiolabeled peptides for animal biodistribution and imaging and therapy studies

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree.
  • Should have research experience in some of the following areas: radiochemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, molecular biology and radiopharmaceutical chemistry.
  • Usual expectation will be development of an independent research area related to current program. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Postdoctoral experience in radiochemistry and animal handling will be a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills; orally and written

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Salary Range:  $56,000 - $112,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
