Job Description

Post-Doctoral Fellow - 29956
Faculty

Description

University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus

Department: Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics

Job Title:  Post-Doctoral Fellow

Position #:00809797 – Requisition #:29956

Job Summary:

The laboratory of Dr. Ning Zhao focuses on developing technologies to understand how proteins are regulated by tracking proteins in living cells with high spatiotemporal resolution. The major approach is single-molecule tracking using super-resolution microscopy. Traditional biochemistry and biophysics approaches will also be applied in our research, such as ELISA, western blots, protein purification, circular dichroism, ITC, DSC, et al.

The candidate for this position is expected to be an experienced protein engineer. The main focus is developing live cell imaging biosensors used for studying protein regulations. The candidate will design biosensors in silico, screen and test the designs experimentally. The candidate is expected to plan and execute independent experiments, analyze data, assist in the writing and publishing of experimental results, assist in grant applications, mentor graduate students, and contribute positively to the atmosphere and culture of the lab.

Key Responsibilities:

80%

The postdoc candidate will develop, including design, clone, screen, and test, biosensors used for live cell imaging, particularly for studying protein regulation by applying a single-molecule tracking approach. The candidate will also characterize the biosensors using traditional biochemistry and biophysics approaches.

20%

The candidate will also assist in the preparation of manuscripts to publish their work, the preparation of grant applications, both internal and external, and the preparation of scientific data for presentation at various meetings and conferences. The candidate will also mentor junior scientists in the lab in their scientific development.

Why Join Us:

Our department conducts research across a wide biological scale for fundamental scientific understanding with applications to many disease contexts. The overarching goal is to reach a level of molecular insight that helps develop therapeutic approaches to disease.

As biochemists and molecular geneticists, we are in the midst of an unprecedented time of discovery - our conception of the molecular biology of cells is going from the equivalent of grainy black-and-white to high-resolution technicolor. From deciphering the choreography of transcription complexes, chromosomes, and RNA molecules within cells to developing novel approaches to 3D molecular structure determination to understanding how viruses hijack a cell’s machinery and alter its metabolome, the researchers in Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics (BMG) are at the forefronts of their fields both conceptually and technologically.

The University of Colorado offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, life insurance, retirement plans, tuition benefits, ECO pass, paid time off – vacation, sick, and holidays and more.
