Position Summary

Bellevue College's Early Learning and Teacher Education Program is currently developing a part-time/adjunct faculty pool to supplement full-time faculty workloads as needed. Courses are part of Washington State's Stackable Certificates and may include specialization courses such as Infant/Toddler Development; Language and Literacy; Observation and Assessment; Environments; Inclusive Education; Introduction to Education and Diversity in Education with a credit range between 3 and 5 credits per course.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule

Adjunct Professor is typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment.

Quarterly remuneration for 5-credit lecture class is $5,201.03 - $6,340.22 . Compensation is prorated based on type and duration of assignments. Individuals newly hired to Adjunct Professor group at the college are placed at the minimum rate per union bargaining agreement. Certain positions may also be eligible for assignment/project-based additional compensation, including a High Demand Stipend up to $8,350 annually, prorated based on the discipline and duration of the assignment. All additional compensations are subject to change depending on funding and negotiated agreement.

Generous benefits package for eligible employees is offered through Washington State plans that includes multiple medical, dental, life and disability coverage choices for employees and dependents; choices of retirement and deferred compensation plans; paid personal leave plan; transit program, reduced tuition, employee discounts and memberships, etc. Eligible employees are faculty who work a combined load of at least 50% at Bellevue College and other Washington State public institutions of higher education for two consecutive quarters are eligible for health and dental insurance at the start of the second consecutive quarter.

In addition to teaching, faculty maintains office hours and may participate in department and college activities. This position is represented by the Bellevue College Association of Higher Education (BCAHE) union.

Essential Functions

Teach in varied modalities including fully online asynchronous, hybrid synchronous and on campus/in-person evening and/or weekend courses.
Instruct, and assess assigned ELTE courses in a manner that promotes student success and multicultural perspectives.
Incorporate active student learning, with emphasis on current anti-bias educational theories and research.
Participate in program marketing and student recruitment activities that are effective for diverse populations.
Contribute to program development and revision of curriculum that reflect advances in the field of early childhood education.
Attend and participate in regular department, division, and college meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

Masters in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or related field with experience in early learning environments.
Documented successful teaching experience.
Demonstrated ability to relate to students and staff of varied ethnicity, ages, backgrounds, and abilities, and a commitment to a culturally diverse environment.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and colleagues.
Demonstrated ability and willingness to adapt to changing teaching schedules and situations.

Preferred Qualifications

Documented successful community college teaching experience in early childhood education, child and family development, K-12 educational studies or related field.
Knowledge of current curriculum, teaching, and assessment practices.
Ability and willingness to employ continuous improvement in curriculum, teaching, and assessment.
Willingness to participate in college initiatives/governance.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
