Job Title: Psychologist (Ph.D., Psy.D.) for the Partial Hospital Program and Inpatient Psychiatric Unit

Job Summary:

The Department of Psychiatry (DOP) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine (CU), the Division of Child and Adolescent Mental Health (DCAMH), and the Pediatric Mental Health Institute (PMHI) of Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO) invite applications for the position of a full-time Psychologist within the CHCO PMHI with primary responsibilities in the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Inpatient Psychiatric Unit (IPU). The PHP provides short-term, intensive treatment aimed at addressing significant emotional and behavioral challenges that prevent youth from functioning optimally at school, home, and in the community. The IPU provides acute stabilization services for youth presenting with a broad spectrum of mental health needs and with imminent concerns of safety to themselves or others. Both interdisciplinary programs use treatment models that are transdiagnostic, evidence-based, family-centered, and trauma-informed. There may be opportunities to work in additional clinical, training, and/or research settings within PMHI based on skillset and program needs. 

Examples of Work Performed

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides direct patient care to children, adolescents, and their families, including group therapy, individual/family therapy, and diagnostic evaluations
  • Implements evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including those based in transdiagnostic cognitive-behavioral therapy principles
  • Oversees the development, training, implementation, and ongoing monitoring of behavior plans
  • Oversees monitoring of treatment progress and programmatic effectiveness
  • Collaborates closely with other PMHI clinical team members and community providers/educators
  • Provides consultation and training in the programs’ evidence-based treatment models to the PMHI interdisciplinary teams, particularly milieu staff
  • Supervises, teaches, and mentors mental health trainees
  • Engages in program development
  • Engages in research, scholarship, and/or quality improvement projects.
  • Serves on committees, task forces, and/or workgroups

Supervision Received:

The PHP/IPU Psychologist reports to the PMHI Clinical Director, Dr. Jessica Hawks, with matrixed reporting to the PMHI Chief of Psychology, Dr. Bruno Anthony, for mentorship. 

Supervision Exercised:

The PHP/IPU Psychologist will not supervise other employees. There will be opportunities to provide supervision, training, and mentoring to mental health trainees.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. 

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Senior Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

 At the time of hire, applicants must have a Colorado Psychologist License or be eligible for licensure within the state of Colorado. Applicants must have completed an APA-approved Ph.D. or Psy.D. training program, including an APA-approved internship, and must have a Ph.D. or Psy.D.

Senior Instructor:

?        1-3 years of relevant clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.

?         Minimum degree qualifications: Ph.D. or Psy.D. 

Assistant Professor:

?        1-3 years of relevant clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.

?         Minimum degree qualifications: Ph.D. or Psy.D. 

Associate Professor:

?        4-7 years of relevant clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.

?         Minimum degree qualifications: Ph.D. or Psy.D. 

Professor:

?        7+ years of relevant clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.

?         Minimum degree qualifications: Ph.D. or Psy.D. 

Preferred Qualifications (applicable for all ranks):

?        Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical experience following completion of a postdoctoral fellowship.

?        Experience providing evidence-based services to youth with acute mental health concerns and/or in acute or intensive mental health settings.

?        Experience working in an APA-accredited training program.

?        Preference will be given to those who are eager to engage in all aspects of the academic mission (clinical, teaching, scholarship, and service). 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  •       Clinical expertise in providing evidence-based assessment, treatment, and consultation to high acuity youth and families.
  •       Strong foundation in behavioral and cognitive-behavioral theory. Well-versed in evidence-based intervention and ability to flexibly apply interventions with fidelity across a wide range of presenting concerns.
  •       Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  •       Capacity for flexibility and adaptability in different work situations.
  •       Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  •       Ability to work effectively on multiple tasks and maintain a well-organized work environment.
  •       Effective time management and organizational skills.
  •       Knows and applies best practices in diversity and inclusion during interactions with patients, families, providers, and other team members.
  •       Ability to provide effective supervision to mental health trainees and consultation with other mental health professionals.
  •       Knowledge of research and quality improvement methodology, as well as the ability to independently conduct research and/or quality improvement projects.
  •       Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of faculty, staff, trainees, patients, and families.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Sr. Instructor: $105,000 to $115,000

Assistant Professor: $105,000 to $115,000

Associate Professor: $130,000 to $140,000

Professor: $162,000 to $200,000 

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
