General Notes

The Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a postdoctoral associate to model carbonation of ultramafic rocks under the supervision of Prof. Marc Hesse in the Department of Geological Sciences and Dr. Esti Ukar in the Bureau of Economic Geology. The fellow will be joining a multidisciplinary, international team of academic and industry stakeholders funded through a DOE ARPA-E MINER project that aims to combine mining of critical elements with geological carbon dioxide storage through in-situ carbon mineralization in the subsurface.

Qualifications include a PhD in Geosciences, Subsurface engineering (Cvil/Petroleum) or Applied Mathematics with a research focus on the simulations of reactive transport in porous and/or fractured media. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, independent, and able to work collaboratively in a diverse and dynamic team. Previous experience modeling the coupling between reactions and geomechanics is desirable.

The postdoc will be based in the Jackson School of Geosciences, either in the Department of Geological Sciences and/or in the Bureau of Economic Geology. The expected start date is September 1, 2023 and the duration of the appointment is 1 year (12 months), with a possibility for renewal for an additional year contingent upon satisfactory performance.
