General Notes

The position is available for an initial duration of 1 year, with the possibility of renewal based on satisfactory progress and availability of funds. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers at the Bureau of Economic Geology and the Cockrell School of Engineering. This position is an in-person position located on J.J. Pickle Research Campus in North Austin.

Purpose

Devise and execute laboratory chemical reaction experiments of rock materials and geomechanical testing to evaluate caprock integrity and wellbore cement stability for subsurface hydrogen storage.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory research.
  • Conduct scientific writing.
  • Preparation of presentations and giving presentations.


Required Qualifications

PhD in geosciences, geochemistry, reservoir geomechanics, engineering rock mechanics, or a related discipline. The successful candidates must provide a record of successful collaborative research experiences, be able to work toward project deadlines, and have a willingness to work with industry scientists to apply techniques and research results. The candidate must have a demonstrated record of scientific publication in international peer-reviewed journals as lead author and demonstrated fluency in spoken and written English. The successful applicant will be expected to present at meetings with sponsors, present at conferences, and publish in international journals.

PhD must have been received no later than 3 years from the date of posting.


Preferred Qualifications

Independent research experience in experimental geochemistry and/or experimental rock mechanics.


Salary Range

$65,000 - $70,000

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
