Description

The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School’s Department of Psychiatry, in conjunction with the Ascension Seton Healthcare Family, is seeking a pediatric psychologist for the Partial Hospitalization Program and Consultation-Liaison services at Dell Children's Medical Center North in Austin, Texas. This position will provide leadership, evidence-based psychosocial programming and training to ensure safe oversight and intervention for patients. Development and support of partial hospitalization programming, coordination of care, and psychotherapeutic support with patients and families are integral dimensions of the position. Our Consultation-Liaison Service is an integrated psychiatry and psychology service that focuses on addressing the psychological and psychiatric needs of our medically complex children in the hospital.

This position includes an academic appointment in the University of Texas at Austin’s Dell Medical School along with associated faculty benefits.

Job Summary

  • Provide behavioral health interventions, including diagnostic assessment, individual, and family psychotherapy, safety planning, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of psychiatry, social work, pharmacy, nursing, and behavioral health technicians.
  • The opportunity for program development and implementation of psychosocial programming. This will include promoting and furthering the utilization of trauma-informed care throughout the program.
  • This position will also be expected to participate in training initiatives which include: an APA accredited internship program, a postdoctoral fellowship program, and opportunities for practicum students.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Education

Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) from an APA or CPA accredited program in Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology

Experience

  • Completion of an APA accredited internship program
  • Postdoctoral Fellowship in Pediatric Psychology or Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology

Licensure/Certifications

  • Current license to practice in Texas (or license eligible) issued by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists
  • Eligibility and commitment to pursue board certification through the American Board of Professional Psychology
  • Eligible for faculty appointment with The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary team
  • Experience with trauma-informed care and/or dialectical behavior therapy

Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong commitment to inter-professional, team-based care through active communication, collaboration, and problem solving
  • Clinical skills for managing high acuity patients with complex behavioral safety concerns as well as ability to utilize ethical decision making to address novel challenges
  • Excellent communication skills with patients, families, and multidisciplinary colleagues
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clinical faculty and staff in psychiatry
  • Sound judgment in decision-making
  • Flexibility and adaptability to change
