Summary

We are looking for a personable, self-motivated, and organized CRC – Assistant to help with recruitment activities for a large, federally-funded clinical trial addressing violence prevention among teens and young adults. This job is located in Flint/Saginaw. Key job responsibilities include recruiting and enrolling Emergency Department patients in our violence prevention study, processing participant payments, medical chart review, and conducting risk assessments as needed. This is a great opportunity for candidates looking to pursue a degree in the medical field who need hands-on clinical research experience for graduate school.

This is the entry level position on the Michigan Medicine CRC Career Ladder. This position provides administrative and coordination support for clinical research projects. This position may assist with study coordination but will not be assigned clinical trials independently. This position may provide coordination for clinical research projects such as studies in long-term follow-up and other non-interventional studies.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

85% Clinical Coordinator Responsibilities

· Screen participants for study eligibility, administer consent, & enroll with accuracy.

· Understand protocol structure and how to interpret study requirements to ensure study compliance.

· Understand proper documentation techniques

· Complete study reimbursement with partners such as the Human Subjects Incentive Program (HSIP)

· Demonstrate the ability to find and utilize information from EMR and databases/CTMS/EDC.

5% Data Coordinator Responsibilities

· Facilitate baseline data collection during study visits (e.g., basic demographic information).

· Check own work and confirm accuracy.

· Demonstrate ability to resolve simple queries.

· Demonstrate the ability to identify AEs and SAEs, ORIOS, and assist with reporting.

5% Administrative Responsibilities

· Demonstrate understanding of the clinical research objectives associated with the program.

· May communicate with study participants such as sending study correspondence via text.

· Utilize documents and systems to track recruitment and retention of participants.

5% Training

· Completes PEERRS and HIPAA training

· Gain appropriate training & knowledge of EPIC database and others as assigned.

· Willing to learn and use available technology and systems to accomplish job requirements.

Supervision Received:

This position receives direct supervision and reports directly to the Project Coordinator and Senior Project Manager.

Supervision Exercised:

Required Qualifications*

High school diploma or GED is necessary.

This position requires flexibility and availability to work a varying schedule with some morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts. We are looking for someone who: is personable, empathetic, and able to communicate effectively; has excellent organizational skills and can prioritize competing tasks to meet deadlines; and is able to work independently for extended periods of time while also being a team player and maintaining effective communication with the study coordinator, senior project manager and principal investigators. Must be comfortable working in the Emergency Department (following established protocols to facilitate social distancing and reduce COVID-19 transmission risks), interacting with diverse populations and discussing sensitive topics (violence, gun carriage, substance use) with study participants.

Desired Qualifications*

Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Public Health or a related health field is desirable. Previous experience in clinical research, clinic/hospital work, demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with staff and faculty of all levels, and knowledge of university policies and procedures is desirable. Experience working on a multi-disciplinary team and using Epic, Qualtrics, Excel and Access is also preferable.

Background Screening
