Finance & Accounting Reporting Specialist (Open Rank Entry, Intermediate and Senior) - Hybrid

Job Description

The purpose of this position is to provide a full range of finance and accounting support for the Department of Surgery personnel. Duties for this position consist of a portfolio of responsibilities that include accounts payable and receivable, procurement, general accounting, financial reporting, revenue tracking, invoicing, and database management. This position works independently and must have the capacity to understand the department, its budgets, and various CU and CU Medicine policies, procedures, and guidelines to be successful. The Finance & Accounting Reporting Specialist is expected to build high-trust and collaborative relationships with business partners, key stakeholders, and take initiative to identify and resolve financial and procurement challenges.

The Finance & Accounting Reporting Specialist is a University Staff position that reports to the Finance & Accounting Manager.

This position is located in Aurora, Colorado and has the ability to work in a hybrid model.

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Serves as a key Finance Professional and resource for faculty and staff in the Department, providing help desk support by responding to inquiries, researching transactions, and providing policy/procedure guidance.
  • Assist the Finance & Accounting Program Manager in monitoring, maintaining, and improving department financial systems and procedures by working to provide insights, updates, and guidance to constituents.
  • Assists the Finance & Accounting Program Manager with reconciling accounts and charges for multiple financial systems, including University, CU Medicine, and the CU Foundation.
  • Assists the Finance & Accounting Program Manager with creating and maintaining spreadsheets, department forms, databases, documentation, dashboard reports and other analysis instruments.
  • Prepares material for regular department and faculty financial report outs as needed.
  • Receives and executes purchasing and vendor payment requests through COR360, CU Marketplace, and via procurement card, in adherence with purchasing policy.
  • Responds to regular and ad hoc reporting requests; research financial data and works to resolve general accounting and operational issues and disputes, escalates as required or coordinates with various departments.
  • Initiates journal entries (JEs), retroactive payroll transfers (PETs), funding distributions changes (FDC, or other corrective adjustments.
  • Compile, review and prepare financial information to assess whether revenues and expenses are on target for the Department and individual faculty, as needed.
  • Maintain current knowledge of CU policies and procedures for compliance enforcement.
  • Oversees check receipt, deposit, and reconciliation and assists with developing and preparing revenue cycle reports for all service lines.
  • Investigates and corrects abnormal financial transactions, allocations, and statement balances.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Finance & Accounting Program Manager and the Director of Finance.

Qualifications:


Minimum Qualifications:

Entry:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, business, finance, accounting, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.

Intermediate:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, business, finance, accounting, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • 1 year of relevant professional experience

Senior:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, business, finance, accounting, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • 2 years of relevant professional experience

Substitution (all levels): A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

Required: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a business, academic, or a medical financial environment.
  • Data management experience includes documenting, tracking, compiling, and reporting.
  • Experience ad hoc troubleshooting, investigating discrepancies, researching transactions, and understanding financial data.
