Summary

The Wensel Laboratory is seeking an independent, self-driven, and creative scientist to lead research projects in molecular signaling and mechanisms of neurodegeneration. This position will require expertise in cell biology, biochemistry and genetics and the ability to set a vision, establish a strategic plan, and lead discovery science programs that may lead to new potential targets for diseases. Candidates will also be expected to be excellent communicators (oral and written) and be able to write applications for extramural funding.


Job Duties
  • Based on the related projects in the lab, the candidate will develop a strategic plan to study mechanisms of sensory signaling and retinal neurodegeneration.
  • Design projects in these areas.
  • Design and execute experiments, using techniques of cell culture, mouse genetics and fluorescence imaging to advance discoveries in signaling and neurodegeneration.
  • Leads in writing scientific publications and grant applications.
  • Mentors scientists to assess and analyze data associated with assigned experiments.
  • Develops long-term vision and align strategic plan including team recruitment and mentorship.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.   
  • The work is a safe and comfortable laboratory environment.
  • Frequently handles/works with biohazards or risk personal job-related injury typical of an ordinary lab environment.

 


Minimum Qualifications
  • Education Required: Ph.D.
  • Experience Preferred: Postdoctoral training in biomedical research
