Job Summary

Under the direction of the Dean of the Lakeshore Campus, the Recruitment Specialist will be responsible for planning and conducting strategic events geared towards both the recruitment and retention of students at the College of Lake County. The individual in this position will be responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with external partners including high school guidance counselors, teachers, and administrators. This position will require an individual who is comfortable and highly proficient with prioritizing time spent on various projects. The Recruitment Specialist will also be expected to develop, lead, coordinate, and assess student-focused, campus-wide programs and activities. This individual will be responsible for initiating academic coaching, disseminates current information about academic programs, and support services to students who are new or returning to CLC. In addition to traditional recruiting responsibilities, assignments include a special emphasis on diverse populations of students.

A successful candidate will be detail oriented, work well autonomously, have strong communication and active listening skills, have excellent problem-solving skills, strong at multitasking, thrive in a fast-paced environment, collaborate with internal departments, being able to navigate through a high call volume of incoming and outbound calls, and represent the college in various committees within CLC and communities throughout Lake County.

Required Qualification

1. Bachelor’s degree.
2. Two (2) years of work-related experience.
3. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
4. Ability to plan and prioritize work requirements and demonstrate independent decision-making capabilities.
5. Experience working with students from diverse ethnic, socio-economic and educational backgrounds.
6. Ability to work flexible hours including weekend hours consistent with College needs.

Desired Qualifications

1. Minimum three (3) years of experience working in higher education.
2. Community college knowledge.
3. Minimum three (3) years of experience using database management systems.
4. Project management experience.
5. Excellent customer service skills.
6. Bilingual in Spanish and English.

Summary of Essential Functions

Department operations/processes 25 %

1. Assists the College by providing a variety of clerical support services supporting students, faculty, and community initiatives.
2. Monitors the student activity budget.
3. Prepares various reports, including but not limited to those related to Student Life, event, and engagement reports.
4. Work with a variety of computer programs such as PeopleSoft, TargetX CRM, etc.
5. Utilize the internet and other innovative uses of technology for marketing and promotional efforts.
6. Participate in professional development, training for new academic programs, recruitment strategies, and higher education trends.
7. Prepare and evaluate reports on student recruitment progress and recommend improvement areas.

Student Support and Engagement 40 %

1. Recruit prospective students through high school & community outreach to meet the College of Lake County enrollment goals.
2. Work collaboratively with the Lakeshore Dean, staff, and faculty to develop new and innovative programming at the Lakeshore Campus.
3. Support recruiting events through planning and execution, including site logistics, catering, technology, transportation, and accounts payable.
4. Provide information and assistance to entering students regarding application to the college, assessment (demonstrating academic proficiencies or meeting pre-requisites), academic programs offered and basic requirements, and other issues related to initial enrollment at the college and connects them to the appropriate CCN.
5. Determine and carry out recruitment activities with sensitivity to multicultural concerns, addressing the needs of diverse audiences within the college district.
6. Collaborate with the Retention Specialist and Student Services for the development of special student and community projects.
7. Assist with the college’s enrollment management plan.
8. Plan, conduct, and direct diverse activities with high school counselors, teachers, administrators, businesses, and organizations by doing high school visits, presentations, information sessions, career/job/college fairs, parents’ night activities, and on-campus events.
9. Work in conjunction with the Division of Student Life to include and grow the Lakeshore Campus presence as a student activities hub
10. Support College and Career Navigators in outreach and campus-specific events.

Faculty/Customer Service 25 %

1. Supports the Dean’s office in providing exceptional service to students, campus, and the general communities.
2. Support ASAs and CCNs in Campus Specific events/ programs.
3. Support Lakeshore Faculty in Campus specific programming.
4. Responsible for surveying students, initiating and facilitating programming regarding student interest in co-curricular activities and involvement, motivating student interest, and offering full support of the student development process of engagement and connections at CLC.
5. Responsible for understanding the college and campus processes and supporting students/faculty with navigation and understanding.

Other 10 %

1. Supports Grant initiatives as needed
2. Staffs the front desk as needed
3. Performs other duties as assigned.
