Full Job Description

The primary responsibility of focus for the Human Resource Development Instructor is to teach job readiness skills to meet the growing needs of today’s job market and to help maintain a skilled workforce. Instructors will assist students with preparing resumes, cover letters, completing online job applications, and registration/navigating NC Works for job and career opportunities. Duties include: collecting and maintaining paperwork on HRD students, advising students on educational opportunities, referring students to various community resources, maintaining and preparing paperwork for section closeouts, displaying good customer service skills at all times, and adhering to Surry Community College and NC Works policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Human Resource Development (HRD) instructors report to the Director of College and Career Readiness and HRD. Each instructor is responsible for these specific duties:
1. Greet students and ensure proper forms and signatures are completed before entering employ-ability lab. Prepare daily HRD lesson plans as a guide for instruction for the regular instructor or a substitute when necessary
2. Securing the appropriate educational resources (textbooks, software, equipment, etc.) to offer alternative instructional approaches to the diverse learning styles of adult students
3. Registering and navigating in NC Works
4. Submitting a list of supplies/materials needed for the classroom to the director in the assigned area
5. Assessing students and planning their individual career pathways
6. Maintaining files on students to document their progress for job readiness skills
7. Listen and assess student needs and discuss various career options and post-secondary avenues
8. Review, revise, and /or create resumes with students
9. Completing and submitting an original pay and attendance sheet on the first day of each month in order to get paid at the end of the month
10. Entering student hours daily through Web Attendance in order to track student attendance
11. Provide guidance with job searches
12. Attending HRD staff meetings, professional in-service meetings, workshops, conferences, and other staff development activities as requested
13. Participating actively in the college planning process and serving on college committees as assigned
14. Adhering to the College and Career Readiness Calendar that has been provided to me in my class packet
15. Completing other duties and assignments as directed by Director and/or Executive Director
16. Agree to keep all student information confidential
17. Maintain a clean and safe work area

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and write as applicable to subject area
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries and/or complaints from students, internal staff, or members of the college community
  • Ability to effectively present information to students, internal staff, or members of the college community

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations required to tabulate student scores

REASONING ABILITY:
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of information.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS (or equivalent demonstrated experience/ability):
  • Established for each Continuing Education program. Contact Director for specifics.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
  • Understanding of and commitment to the unique nature and role of the College and to the philosophy of the community college system

Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Adult Education with teaching experience
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Teaching certificate if available; other certifications and licenses that would be helpful in teaching Human Resource Development curriculum
