Position Summary

Academic Advisors/Senior Academic Advisors will report to the Assistant Director and Senior Academic Advisor for First- and Second-Year Students at either FCLC or FCRH, depending on the Advisor’s home campus.

Essential Functions

  • Meets individually with all assigned students (in person, online, and by phone) on a regular basis to provide academic advising and degree planning and to support the transition from high school to college.
  • Develops programming and provides resources to students in support of their academic progress and career development.
  • Applies best practices in academic advising to assist students in selecting programs of study, discerning fields of study, and connecting to experiential opportunities such as undergraduate research, study abroad, community engaged learning, and internships.
  • Collaborates with other advisors, both in FCRH and in FCLC, to develop a strong advising community and to deliver programs that support student success and retention.
  • Works collaboratively with student success team, departmental associate chairs, program directors, faculty mentors, and other members of the faculty and staff on student academic progression and student concerns.
  • Contributes to the effectiveness of academic advising and student support through team-based work with other deans in the FCRH, FCLC, the Gabelli School of Business, and other schools throughout Fordham University.
  • Fully leverages the potential of Salesforce – our student success hub – to provide wraparound student support.
  • Uses data-based tools to identify and prioritize students who need intervention and support.
  • Attends regular case conferences and works collaboratively with others across the institution, including Assistant Deans for Student Support and Success, Counseling and Psychological Services, Campus Ministry and Student Affairs, in identifying and supporting at-risk students as needed.
  • Responds to regular inquiries from students, parents, faculty, and other administrators with regard to academic and course related issues. Understands and complies with all FERPA regulations and maintains appropriate confidentiality.
  • Supports major campus events such as Commencement and works with Admissions on events for incoming advisees.
  • Some evening and weekend hours are required, on occasion to support major campus events.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Higher Education Student Affairs, Counseling, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in higher education, academic advising, or transfer student support.
  • Familiarity with best practices in academic advising and in working with a varied, diverse population of students.
  • Proficiency in various software tools such as Microsoft Office Suite and G-Suite.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proven ability to juggle multiple responsibilities, organize, prioritize, and work collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Higher Education Student Affairs, Counseling, or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in higher education, academic advising, or transfer student support.
  • Experience with Banner, Salesforce, and web management systems.

Candidates who meet the Preferred Qualifications may be considered for the rank of Senior Advisor.

Minimum Starting Salary: $65,000

Maximum Starting Salary: $85,000

Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
