Postdoctoral Appointee - Heterogeneous Inorganic and Organometallic Catalysis

Argonne

Job Description

The Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division seeks a Postdoctoral Appointee who will conduct research as part of a multidisciplinary team in heterogeneous supported inorganic and organometallic catalysis. The project will involve designing, synthesizing, and characterizing metal-ligand complexes, supporting these complexes on metal oxide and/or non-traditional support materials, and evaluating the catalytic activity of these materials and how electronic metal-support interactions in non-traditional catalyst materials can be leveraged to modulate catalytic activity and selectivity. This research program will include studies towards understanding reaction mechanisms through reaction kinetics analysis and other physical organic and inorganic techniques.

Position Requirements

  • Experience in the synthesis and testing of heterogeneous catalysts

  • Understanding of kinetics and thermodynamics as applied to catalysis

  • Knowledge of and experimental expertise in synthesis and characterization of highly air-sensitive catalyst materials

  • Experience with the design and construction of batch and flow reactors for catalysis

  • Proficient in written and oral communication

  • Analytical techniques such as nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, infrared and ultraviolet spectroscopy

  • Experience with spectroscopies suited to supported molecular species such as DRIFTS and X-ray absorption spectroscopy would be an asset for this position

  • Ph.D. degree (typically completed within the last 0 - 3 years) in organic, organometallic, inorganic chemistry, or related discipline in the scientific application of this knowledge and practical laboratory experience (PhD received or expected to receive in the next six months preferred)
