Network and Systems Administrator

Job Description

NETWORK AND SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR, Center for Transportation & Logistics (CTL), to provide ongoing user support, systems administration, and maintenance in the areas of hardware, software, network systems planning, configuration, installation integration, and maintenance of Macintosh OSX and Windows workstations and servers, including software/hardware/network/mobile devices. Will maintain and continuously improve network infrastructure; coordinate changes across multiple, complex systems; answer questions and handle problems/general issues with respect to user support for faculty, staff, and students; and maintain direct contact with MIT’s IS&T staff in order to take advantage of the resources and support available from the larger MIT community. 

 

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  bachelor's degree in computer science or related field; three years' direct, hands-on experience maintaining a similar environment; work experience installing and managing servers, workstations, and laptops, preferably in office and lab environments; experience coordinating end-user support activities; solid understanding of network technologies, protocols, computer architecture, operating systems, and batch scripting;  familiarity with large Windows domains and cross domain authentication; working knowledge of Macintosh OSX, Linux and/or UNIX, MS Exchange, Apache Web Servers, MySQL and MS-SQL databases, PHP scripting, both Drupal  and WordPress web CMS, and SaaS/Salesforce administration; excellent communication skills; ability to multitask in a busy and growing center; ability to continuously maintain and improve existing infrastructure, recognizing problems and deficiencies and implementing solutions; familiarity with networking (TCP/IP, VPNs) and security (SSL/SSH, PKI, PGP, x509), Kerberos, LDAP, and single sign-on/Touchstone/Duo; ability to work independently and with MIT partner organizations; advanced-level knowledge of IT standards and policies; and ability to communicate technical concepts in common terms to ensure understanding from all audiences.  PREFERRED:  knowledge of MSI installers and multimedia streaming applications.  Job #22600-9
