Job Description

TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE, BIOMECHATRONICS, Media Lab, to design, develop, and verify mechanical, electrical, and software components of an active prosthetic joint.  Will engineer and implement features that facilitate the operation and maintenance of an active prosthetic joint; independently design, assemble, and verify power electronics, mechanical assemblies, and packaging using CAD, PCB design software, and other computational tools; assist with related research projects, gathering and analyzing data, designing research protocols, documenting research results, and publishing research outcomes; engage with and maintain collaboration between local and international researchers; and perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree in biomechanical, biomedical, or mechanical engineering, or a related field; background in the experimental or theoretical/computational aspects of biomechanics and system dynamics; two years of experience with EMG processing and using it in the context of neuroprosthetic control; knowledge of thermodynamics, precision machine design, information theory, and formal logic; experience leading the development of medical device manufacturing processes and coordinating GLP biocompatibility testing; and demonstrated mastery of multivariable calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, and mathematical optimization. PREFERRED: master’s degree in biomechanical, biomedical, or mechanical engineering or a related field; experience in videography, photography, graphical design, and audio engineering; and experience preparing FDA documents for clinical translation of medical devices.  Job #22601
