Full Job Description

Status: Full time | Reports to: Wyoming Field Manager| Location: Wyoming, remote.

Salary: $55,000

A growing and effective conservation organization, the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership (TRCP), seeks to hire a passionate and proactive individual to serve as its Wyoming Community Partnerships Coordinator. This person will implement public education and advocacy campaigns in the Cowboy State to unite and amplify hunter and angler voices to advance TRCP’s policy priorities, and to increase the collective influence of the sporting community by demonstrating how conservation fits into a prosperous Wyoming.

Ideal candidates will have experience advocating for and organizing around policy issues, working collaboratively with hunters and anglers, elected and appointed officials, and implementing public relations strategies. This person must understand the voice and values of the hunt-fish community and be eager to further the organization’s work to conserve special places, safeguard big game migration corridors, balance development with habitat values, and open access to inaccessible public lands.

Founded in 2002, the TRCP is a nonprofit conservation organization with a mission to guarantee all Americans quality places to hunt and fish. We do this by uniting and amplifying our partners’ voices to advance America’s legacy of conservation, habitat, and access.The organization works with 63 formal partner groups and represents more than 130,000 members and supporters, including 3,000 in Wyoming.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a Wyoming list-building strategy that increases our grassroots advocacy capacity in the state;

  • Build a grassroots advocacy strategy that advances our state and federal policy goals to conserve public lands and wildlife habitat, and support recreation opportunities;

  • Recruit, train, and empower Wyoming hunters and anglers and the public to effectively educate their decision-makers, including personal relationship building, submitting comments, public testimony, and other actions;

  • Identify and train volunteer leaders to amplify our advocacy efforts;

  • Plan and host events to grow and empower TRCP supporters and educate decision-makers on our issues;

  • Coordinate with hunters and anglers, conservation, business, and recreation groups to build a unified voice for public lands and wildlife conservation;

  • Work with the Wyoming Field Manager to strengthen and leverage relationships with state and federal agencies and decisionmakers;

  • Advocate on behalf of the TRCP with written and in-person testimony at the Wyoming Legislature, WGFD commission meetings, and other key decision points;

  • Work with TRCP communications staff to use traditional and digital media to shape the public narrative, drive hunter and angler engagement, and provide support for decision makers to take action;

  • Provide development support in the financial health of the program; and

  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Experience, Skills, and Competencies

  • Experience successfully advocating for policy change with state and local decisionmakers;

  • Experience with citizen recruitment and engagement with traditional and social media tools;

  • Knowledge of and a passion for Wyoming and hunting and fishing;

  • Ability to navigate the varied and diverse interests that influence conservation efforts in Wyoming;

  • Experience with the use of customer relationship software and citizen advocacy software to track, activate, and elevate volunteers;

  • Willingness and ability to travel across the state;

  • Understanding of the dynamics of federal and/or state agencies;

  • Ability to work with the TRCP team, including program, communications, government relations, and development staff, and in coalitions with partners and allies, including unconventional allies;

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including experience writing grant applications, targeted email, blog posts, and media releases;

  • Strong organizational skills and careful attention to detail;

  • Ability to work virtually and independently; and

  • Strong initiative, enthusiasm, and willingness to pitch in whenever needed.
