Job Description

COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR, Program in Science, Technology, and Society (STS)-Knight Science Journalism Program (KSJ@MIT)-Knight Science Fellowship Program, to develop and implement marketing and outreach campaigns for the KSJ@MIT Fellowship Program, oversee the program’s webpages, maintain alumni connections, and build relationships within and outside MIT with the goal of increasing and driving audience awareness of KSJ@MIT and its role in science journalism.  Responsibilities include maintaining and growing KSJ’s social media presence, supporting its outreach work, promoting the fellowships and Victor K. McElheny Award in Science Journalism, and performing promotional duties; monitoring, interpreting, and reporting on website and social media traffic analytics; managing an annual budget for promotional and related communications/outreach activities; overseeing informational aspects of the KSJ website; collaborating on developing a team plan for updating, broadening, and maintaining KSJ website content; managing website news content and event coverage; supervising interns; designing and implementing external email communications; database and email list maintenance; cultivating relationships/partnerships with science writers’ associations, journalism organizations, and key stakeholders; and helping promote and orchestrate KSJ@MIT and live events.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree; three years’ directly related work experience creating marketing and communications content across web, social media, email, and print media; knowledge of relevant technologies; experience managing content management systems; proficiency with Google Analytics, Microsoft and Adobe software, current and emerging social media and digital platforms, and web-based collaboration systems; strong analytical, communication, and project-management skills; and willingness to work in a flexible small team environment.  PREFERRED:  experience within a publishing environment, working knowledge of basic website coding protocols (e.g., HTML, CSS), and experience contributing to the creation of digital and print graphic content and overseeing the production of image-based and graphic materials.  Job 22595-7
