Under the supervision of the Director of Advising, the Entry Advisor is a full-time, exempt position that will be responsible for providing enrollment, retention and completion assistance for students attending North Seattle College, 40-50% of whom identify as BIPOC.

This position provides direct advising services to all students and delivers academic advising services for new and undecided/exploratory students. This position will be expected to work occasionally in the evening or weekends as program needs demand. This is a twelve-month 1.00 position.

Compensation for this position is $64,000/year.

What you will be working on: (please keep it to 10 bullets describing what successful candidates will accomplish / achieve)

  • Assist new and exploratory students with course selection in the creation of first and/or second term individualized educational plans based on academic interests.


  • Advise prospective, new, and current students concerning college admission requirements, college transfer and professional/technical programs, degree requirements, and transfer requirements.


  • Manage an Academic Advising caseload of undecided/exploratory students in their first one to two quarters, with the goal of helping each student confirm their academic pathway by the end of their second quarter, with a warm hand-off to their Area of Study Advisor.

  • Collaborate with Student Success staff and faculty to develop workshops, materials, and referral points for undecided/exploratory students.


  • Assist in the creation, coordination and delivery of advising communications and programming aimed at supporting prospective and undecided students of color. Track, report and assess activities, including participation, retention, and completion rates.


  • Make appropriate referrals for students in need of personal or career counseling.


  • Incorporate an anti-racist and anti-oppressive lens into daily advising practice.

  • Support and enhance a sense of belonging and success for students from traditionally marginalized populations.

  • Update advising materials and resources as needed.

  • Participate in the development of program priorities as a member of the NSC Advising and Student Success Services team.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What you bring as a candidate:

(Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)

  • Bachelor's degree in education, student development, psychology, human relations, or related field.

  • Two years' experience in an educational setting supporting students progress toward their educational goals.

  • Experience with advising, counseling, mentoring, coaching, or providing navigation services for students in pursuit of post-secondary educational goals.


  • Proven track record of advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), such as organizing EDI activities, advocating for policy changes, community engagement, or self-advocacy.


  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines while being attentive to detail.

  • Demonstrated experience with communicating and working respectfully and effectively with persons from diverse backgrounds, such as racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, sexual orientation, socio-economic, and with diverse physical and learning disabilities.

  • Strong understanding of the concepts of institutional and structural racism and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities.

  • Highly motivated, self-starter, flexible; ability to work in a dynamic environment.

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Familiarity and proficiency with various technologies, including but not limited to student database systems and student success technologies.

  • Knowledge of articulation and transfer between community colleges and four-year transfer institutions.

  • Multilingual abilities are a plus, Spanish preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform range of physical motions, exerting up to 25 pounds; lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds; standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time, kneeling, squatting, and stooping; and traversing up and down stairs.
