Job Description

Jefferson Community College, Watertown, New York, part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Instructor of Engineering to begin August 21, 2023, reporting to the School of STEM and Health Professions Chairperson. Responsibilities include classroom and laboratory teaching for STEM coursework including engineering fundamentals, computer-aided design and drafting, engineering design and build, statics, dynamics, and mechanics of materials, student advising, curriculum development and committee work. The ideal candidate will exhibit an interest and/or experience with robotics and UAV’s, teaching in various modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, online, etc.), and the ability to motivate a diverse group of students (diverse in age, underrepresented minorities, knowledge, and skills), as well as display a strong academic background in areas such as computer programming, physics, electronics, and engineering and/or a combination of these areas. The ideal candidate will have experience working in the discipline and have the ability to work effectively as a team member as well as work independently. Coursework will be assigned based on the individual strengths, education, and experience of the successful candidate. Faculty are expected to advance the College's focus on student success and completion and will work closely with the College's leadership to advance the mission of the Strategic Plan 2020-2025.

Requirements: Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Education or STEM-related discipline closely aligned with Engineering. In extraordinary cases, a bachelor's degree may be considered to fill a vacancy with the candidate enrolled in a master’s degree program and attainment within three years of employment.

Applicants must interact and communicate effectively with diverse populations, foster inclusion, and promote equal access and treatment for groups traditionally under-represented in higher education.

Preferred: A Master's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM-related discipline; strong communication skills; curriculum development experience; teaching experience, preferably at the college level; evidence of ability to teach both lecture and hands-on laboratories, applying a variety of teaching methods; demonstrated use of instructional technology; ability to integrate critical thinking strategies into the teaching/learning process; ability to work proactively with students in a remote learning environment; and the demonstrated ability to keep current in the engineering field; demonstrated ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds with a range of skills.
