Job Summary:

Entry Laboratory Science Professionals perform duties in an experimental lab, or wet lab, and handle a variety of chemicals and/or potential “wet” hazards. Entry Laboratory Science Professionals perform duties in laboratories where chemicals, drugs, or other materials or biological matters are tested and analyzed.

We are looking for two 1.0 full-time research service professionals (RSP) who are bright, enthusiastic, organized, kind, and detail-oriented individuals, one each to work in Dr. Jen McKey’s and Dr. Elle Roberson’s labs.

Dr. McKey’s lab uses mice and cutting-edge 3D imaging techniques to study the development of the mammalian ovary and the establishment and regulation of adult female fertility. The RSP will manage general lab organization duties including lab ordering and maintenance of the McKey lab mouse colony. The RSP will also learn and employ techniques in molecular biology, cell biology, and fertility analysis.

Dr. Elle Roberson’s lab uses mice to investigate cyclical uterine remodeling and homeostasis. The RSP will manage general lab organization duties including lab ordering and Roberson mouse colony maintenance. The RSP will also learn and employ molecular-genetic, cell biology, and fertility analysis techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions.
  • Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects.
  • Perform experiments and tabulate and analyze research.
  • Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting, and communicating results.
  • Perform pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical test process and evaluate results produced.
  • Prepare lab for daily operations, including stocking materials, equipment, safety, cleanliness, and related areas.
  • Provide animal care related to research studies, as necessary.
  • Pick up, transport, and maintain results, samples, documents, materials, and other items as needed.
  • Dispose of laboratory materials and samples using well established guidelines and instructions.
  • Review, complete and process logs, documents, databases, and related materials and information.
  • Provide support researching issues and developing recommendations to resolve process, unit, and related issues.
  • Assist in the review and implementation of lab support policies, practices and programs to meet organizational, operations and management needs.
  • Assist with ensuring compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations; receive guidance and direction or escalate when required.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Mouse colony management includes, but is not limited to handling, genotyping, weaning, and euthanizing mice.
  • Lab management duties include keeping the lab inventory stocked and organized, enforcing environmental health and safety measures, and onboarding new lab members.

Our investigations focus on several major tissue and organ systems such as the brain, heart, intestine, face, and vascular, olfactory, and immune systems. Our work is leading to a better understanding of childhood disabilities associated with neuropsychiatric disease, Down syndrome, the congenital basis of cardiovascular and facial malformations and the impact of maternal health on fetal development.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
    • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
  • Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab.

  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as $40,280 to $51,236.

    The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable

    estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
