Job Summary:

This full-time, faculty position will work at ClinImmune Labs which is within the Division of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.  ClinImmune Labs provides stem cell banking, stem cell processing, clinical HLA testing for human stem cell and organ transplants, plays a key role in clinical trials conducted at UCH and has two FDA licensed hematopoietic stem cell products used for treating >100 patients per year.  It also holds an FDA IND for use of umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells in the treat of diabetic foot ulcers, and a patent for HLA gene editing for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.  This position is responsible for providing research and clinical support to ClinImmune Labs in the areas of training, mentoring, assay development, procedure development, the design and implementation of research experiments, and clinical laboratory activities associated with transplant operations.

Examples of Work Performed

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

Histocompatibility (HLA) Laboratory

  • Specifically conduct research on ClinImmune’s HLA Gene Editing for the treatment of various autoimmune diseases including, but not limited to, Type 1 Diabetes and Multiple Sclerosis.
  • Instructor will provide training and mentoring to graduate students, staff, laboratory technicians, researchers, and postdoctoral fellows.

Research

  • Data collection, processing and analysis for projects.
  • Plan and design research experiments; establishing priorities and recommending schedules, time tables and costs.
  • Present research findings to internal and external audiences.
  • Operate specialized scientific equipment.
  • Perform statistical analyses, including selecting the appropriate analysis procedure, setting up data for analysis, judging validity and reliability of data, designing and programs to perform analyses, and producing written reports on the results of the analyses.
  • Effectively use available technology to facilitate the success of the project.
  • Write, edit and submit for grant applications.
  • Write, edit and submit peer reviewed technical publications.
  • Design work flow and validations/verifications plans for process development.
  • Create validations and verifications associated with process development.
  • Planning and managing progress of process development.
  • Development of SOPs for process development activities to meet regulations.
  • Initiate and monitor training and competency of staff performing process development activities to meet regulations.
  • Apply research laboratory experience such as aseptic cell culture, molecular and cell biology assays, and flow cytometry in the development of processes, procedures and documentation to take research through IND clinical trial phases.

Instruction

  • Provide training/mentoring to incoming graduate assistants, technicians, researchers, and rotating postdoctoral fellows.

Supervision Received - The Instructor reports to the Technical Director, Christina Roark. 

Supervision Exercised - The Instructor will not supervise other employees.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

•  Education: Ph.D or its equivalent experience.

•  Experience:

  • 3 or more years of laboratory experience relating directly to HLA molecules and their binding properties, molecular cloning, flow cytometry, and cell assays.
  • 3 or more years of laboratory experience in animal anesthesia and surgery, genotyping and breeding mice, tissue collection and database management of a mouse colony.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Immunology, molecular and cellular biosciences, or a related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with transgenic mouse models and in vivo experiments
  • Experience with assay development and performance of molecular biology assays
  • Experience with targeting HLA amino acids for alteration and producing cellular lines with mutated HLA alleles.
  • Experience with administering, training, and mentoring

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

    $75,000 to $80,000

    The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
